"While waiting for Late Autumn and An Autumn Afternoon, my favorite Ozu movies, I’m happy to choose Tokyo Story, immaculately transferred and bolstered with a two-hour documentary on Ozu, featuring all the old familiar faces. The extreme simplicity and limpidity of Ozu’s cinematic expression has no equal. Tokyo Story teeters on that exquisite knife-edge between stoicism and sentimentality."

"My friend Audrey Gelman showed me this film as the beginning of my political education. While it is a documentary that provides a ton of backstory on the Clinton campaign and the art and science of electing a president, it has the pace and power of a good thriller produced by George Clooney with David Strathairn in at least one role with gravitas."

Awesome documentary about the work of Jamal Khashoggi. It explores the investigation into his murder, the people he touched, and the spy work involved in tracking him and protecting those involved. In 2018, a number of Republicans were pushing for sanctions which President Trump rejected for economic reasons. Two years later, many of those congressmen sided with Trump in the 2020 Election Controversy.

I grew up on Dr Ruth Westheimer. I wrote a book report on her autobiography in probably middle school. This is how influential she was during the 80s. The new documentary about her life released on Hulu and in select theaters quietly pays homage to this remarkable woman. Much like another short statured Jewish woman who received a documentary last year, Dr Ruth gave a voice to women and power to women in the bedroom. She made it okay to air your sexual problems and get a solution. For a generation, her humor and honesty turned a German girl who escaped the Holocaust and the 1948 Israeli-Arab War into a minor celebrity. I hope people can see this film and appreciate this trailblazer who tirelessly works for feminism (although she is not a feminist) and LBGTQ.

Incredible True Crime story
This documentary was amazing. What starts as an investigation by keyboard warriors into the identity of a messed up individual who posts a video of extreme animal cruelty turns into a twisty true crime ride.

At only 3 episodes; unlike many recent documentaries shown on Netflix, this one didn't feel drawn out. We are saved from having to actually witness any of the horrors they saw in the online videos covered (although if you are sensitive to animal cruelty and violence they do describe what occurs in the videos which is devastatingly brutal.) The documentary is narrated to a large part by some real-life heroes on a quest and the emotion they felt really comes across.

I had no idea when I started watching this where it was going but it was a jaw-dropping experience.

"Oh! I’ve got an Honorable Mention; can I get an Honorable Mention? Roger & Me, Michael Moore. I was born and raised in Flint, Michigan. For me, that changed the whole documentary game. Usually, docs were PBS specials or that sort of thing, but it was like, “Oh my god, this is actually entertaining!” [laughs] And Mike, you know, he made sure he crossed that line. I remember it was going up against Batman, so it was like Roger & Me and Batman, and actually, Do the Right Thing was coming out right around that same time. It was a real watershed moment for me. But my Honorable Mention is Roger & Me. What it did for the doc game, really made me respect the power of a great documentary. I could get the same great emotion from that as I did anything."

Fascinating
I haven't seen Fiddler in the Roof yet but watched this documentary about the creation and history of the play on PBS. I was enthralled from start to finish. I was always intrigued by the Jewish religion but didn't know anyone who practiced it while I was growing up so it remained a mystery to me. A very sacred mystery that is filled with tradition and ceremony and secrets. It always felt like Fiddler was not meant for my eyes as it would unveil those secrets so I did not seek out to view a production of it. Watching this documentary brought the story of Fiddler, religious and cultural tradition, and a Jewish family from a Russian settlement to life. As soon as this quarantine, I am determined to find the nearest production of Fiddler and view it immediately.

"Another documentary. [Director Errol Morris has] got so many movies that I love and there are so many other documentaries that I love too. But The Thin Blue Line is interesting to choose right now because now there is a resurgence of true crime documentaries — a lot of them [are] series like Making a Murderer or The Jinx. But Thin Blue Line was kind of the original true crime documentary that really sort of made you question police tactics and I think anyone who’s into Making a Murderer or Serial or The Jinx — or any of these shows right now, and podcasts — and hasn’t seen Thin Blue Line should check that out. It’s just a well-made movie in general but it’s also a fascinating story of a crime that someone may or may not have done."

Admittedly I have never been much of a dolly fan, nothing against her but I'm not into country music. Saying that, I did go into this with an open mind.
From the moment she is on screen she comes across as very likeable and down to earth, she even makes fun of her plastic surgery which sadly has ruined her looks, but we all know it's what's inside that counts.
She's definitely passionate about her work and very political, she also seems to be a very private person. The documentary has interviews with a few big names including Kylie minogue and Jane fonda but nobody had any dirt or juicy gossip, in fact this is the only documentary I've watched so far where's there's been nothing negative about the celeb. It does leave you wanting to know more.

This film is both intelligent and action packed with undertones that mirror Apartheid.
The concepts here are well played out and the CGI is non obtrusive and blend in very well, the Ghetto areas are realised well and some scenes are like a documentary, but when the action begins it really is a rollercoaster and when the end comes it's very fitting, an absorbing watch.
