The Sword in the Stone.
Excalibur.
I always thought they were two different blades, but not according to this movie, which transplants the action from ye-olde medieval England to modern-day times, with young Alex discovering the sword and setting off on a quest (alongside his best friend Badders, and two of his former bullies Lance and Kay) to stop the evil Sorceress Morgana from reawakening.
So, yes, it does follow pretty much the standard quest trope, complete with enemies who become friends and the battle against evil. I also found it to drag somewhat, and was sitting - for large portions - watching it with my mouth hanging open.
Unfortunately, that's not in a good way - just at the sheer plain ridiculousness of it all!
Then again, that may be simply because I'm not really it's target audience ... ?

Sorrow Spring is a slow to start gothic thriller - but it’s worth persevering with!
There’s a lot of scene setting: it’s 1978, and Rina has been unceremoniously left at her Aunt Agatha’s house by her mother. She has no more contact with her mother after this.
2019, and Rina’s niece, Cate, is searching for her aunt as her father is seriously ill and wants to see his sister for the last time.
But as Cate finds out more about her aunt, the more sinister are her findings and the more unfriendly the people she encounters.
There’s some ancient folklore, sketchy traditions and a rather interesting ending.
I listened to this on audiobook (Xigxag), which probably helped along the bits that tended to drag (1978 was a very talkative time), but all in all, this was a good read/ listen!

Enjoyable
Having been nagged by my teen son to watch this movie for some time, I finally got around to watching it. I have to say, I was dubious about Tom Hardy playing the main character to begin with, however I was pleasantly surprised. Hardy was well cast and injected a sense of humour and fun into the role. I did find that Michelle Williams was poorly cast as Hardy’s girlfriend. I found the chemistry between Hardy and Williams was lacking, and Williams was a little wooden in parts.
The plot line was humorous and easy to follow, my teen son loved it. At times, I found the graphics, particularly Venom, were a little cheesy, but I think this was part of the nature of the film.
The film was not overly long, so did not drag out. All in all, an enjoyable watch.

Local story
I took this book on holiday with me,Ironically to the western highlands where the main character is from, and I live 20 miles from Hull where the story is based, which is why the story resonated wirh me so well. I enjoyed the feeling of being able to picture the areas that are being described in the book.
I thought for a debut novel David Mark did a fantastic job of keeping the reader enthralled by the drama of the story, but also kept the story nice and concise, it didn't drag on too long. Also I managed to guess who the culprit was, but had to read all the way to the end to find out how he/she was connected with the whole case.
Overall a very good book and I will definitely be buying more from this author.

If this film had been around when I was a kid, I probably would have watched it at least once a week. The film reinvigorates the story of Arthur, and does it far more service than that travesty that was released a few years ago.
I'm not a big kid movie watcher, and admittedly, I stood outside of the theater so I didn't have to watch the kid previews attached to it.
The main character, Alex, is a likeable, relatable, realistic kid that just wants to do the right thing. His best friend, Bedders, was my favorite kid out of the core 4, and had some of the best quips.
But, the best character was the whack-a-doo Young Merlin, that portrayal is the Merlin I've always wanted.
The film did drag a little in the middle, but it was overall entertaining, kid-friendly flick.
