Lindsay (1793 KP) rated Dragons Don't Dance Ballet in Books
Jan 17, 2021
Dragons are not for breathing fire. They're a friendly dragon that has dreams of her own. She wants to dance. The title of this book is “Dragons Don't Dance Ballet”. What a way to say you can not have what you want.
But Esmeralda Dragon thinks she can't fit in and with the image of her body she thinks she can not dance. Well, this book helps with body image and encourages you to keep going and trying to fulfill your dreams. It also teaches us to never give up.
Will Esmeralda Dragon get what she wants or will she give up on trying. She has a friend Harold and he comes to encourage her. He does seem to step up when everyone else does not. You will be surprised by how this ends.
The pictures are done well. Just cause you do not look like others does not mean you can not fit it. You just are different and need to do things differently. Will Esmeralda Dragon get to dance? Children should try and keep trying to reach their dreams. They should never give up if they want to reach them. This seems to be what this book is about. The meaning of it along with the body being different. That should not matter if you can do something.

Shaun Collins (3 KP) rated Doctor Who: Son of the Dragon in Books
Jan 12, 2018
Once I got over my surprise that this was not a story set in Asia and featured no dragons, I quite enjoyed myself. It feels like a long while since I heard a 5th Doctor pure historical, (not true, this being the era of Peri and Erimem, but still) and like Peri, I kept waiting for that supernatural element to appear. We are talking about Dracula, after all. But nope. Just a wonderful straightforward historical with some great performances. I tire a bit of the "let's throw Erimem to the lusty bad guy trope" but other than that, high marks. For more on this, visit www.travelingthevortex.com
Alice (12 KP) rated Talon (Talon, #1) in Books
Jul 3, 2018
Definitely a new side to dragons that I don't think I've seen before. A strong hatred between Talon and St. George which was played out quite well.
Ember was a very good name for a dragon and I particularly liked Riley 's nickname of Firebrand I thought it suited her well.
The characters were well developed with balance between prose and dialogue. Very well written.
I preferred Riley /Cobalt to Garrett but I'll almost always choose a shapeshifter over a human. Riley just had that bad boy-esque edge to him plus the added bonus of mates or at least I think they're mates.

Merissa (13765 KP) rated Where Did All The Dragons Go? in Books
Dec 17, 2018
Wonderful for all ages and Dragon Lovers!
This is one of my all-time favourite books and it still brings a lump to my throat when I read it to my daughters. In fact, it is their most requested book to be read out too.
The story (although short) is wonderful and trips off your tongue with lilting cadences and takes you from start to finish with a rhyme. The illustrations are magnificent, but maybe not the "normal" which just makes it more enjoyable.
Highly recommended for reading to your children or grandchildren ..... or if you want to remind yourself of where the dragons really are!

AT (1676 KP) rated Dragon Drive, Vol. 1 in Books
Apr 24, 2020
Dragon Drive seems like it will be a cute manga series. A high school boy that's not good at anything tries his hand at a high-tech virtual reality game that allows the player to ride and interact with a dragon partner during battles with other players. He gets paired up with a pathetically scrawny dragon, and has to figure out how to make it fight. The interaction with his dragon is pretty funny since everyone else seems to have huge, powerful dragons. The fact that there were several battles in volume one seemed a little repetitive, but the cute dragon made up for it.

Tom Turner (388 KP) rated A Natural History of Dragons: A Memoir by Lady Trent in Books
May 26, 2021
I loved the premise of this book. Set in a world equivalent to our 19th century, in the world of Darwin etc, except this world has dragons, and using a woman was as a protagonist of course highlights all the difficulties such a person might encounter.
The idea of having it as her memoir, for me while clever, was it's major weakness. Due to the character and it's time period, there was an understandable stiltedness to the narrative, but this was not something you could get over.
However, I am tickled enough to continue with the series one day, but not enough to do so straight away.
