"This is Eisenberg's first collection of stories — and many of them hinge on how our perception of the world can be irrevocably changed. In the title story, a character answers the phone, and as she talks to the caller, a former lover, she glances toward the man she's having a drink with: "He seemed like a scrap of paper, or the handle from a broken cup, or a single rubber band — a thing that has become dislodged from its rightful place." I so responded to this wonderful notion that you can lose yourself in one moment, and afterward see everything in a totally different way."

"This was made before George died and released shortly after, so you can’t watch it without a lump in your throat. He’s such a brilliant musician, an effortless singer, but also just an ordinary, interesting guy with a natural gift. I used to have this unhealthy habit of playing his songs when I was drunk and maudlin. I love how this film shows how he took control of his image early on, and how we see the lyrics to Freedom as being so astute, not vacuous at all. He’s also funny and filthy – the kind of person you’d love to have a drink with. It’s so sad that he’s not here."

Gripping read

The lightning house throws you straight into the action from the very first page. Being based on a true story helps to draw you in even further to this gripping story and makes it all the more shocking......it had me breathless a fair few times!
Full of danger and intrigue, you'll find it hard to put down this well written and thrilling read. You'll find yourself immersed in a whole new world from your daily life and perhaps have you wondering how people get by with so many secrets and lies in their lives.

Definitely an adult read that would go nicely with a cheeky drink and chocolate.

Fun, flirty and emotional

Being a woman heading towards forty this actually resonated with me. It highlights the wants and needs that are ever present and how we can convince ourselves of certain things, along side doing many things at once.
Hadley, our lovely main character, is strong and independent. She's also likeable and a survivor of the well known thing..... heartbreak.
Babe in the Woods is my box of chocolates read, accompanied by a favourite drink and snuggled up on the sofa. Alternatively, gift to a friend so you can have a natter about it over a coffee! It's fun and flirty but with an emotional edge.
