Heathere' (25 KP) rated Drunk History in TV

Learn about history from drunk people
The premise is that the host, Derek Waters goes to the house of various comedians and they drink copious amounts of alcohol. The guest comedian then narrates a true account of an historical figure that they are familiar with but they are inebriated while telling the story. Meanwhile, actors, comedians and Derek Waters play the roles of the historical figures and 'lip sync' whatever the guest narrator says. This can be very comical as the narrator slurs, burps, stutters or messes up the story in some way. Each episode has 2 or 3 guest comedians and there is usually a theme to each episode, i.e. civil rights, the west, etc. Everything the narrator says is obviously not 100% accurate, however, the basis is. I have actually learned a lot about historical figures because of Drunk History because I look up things about interesting characters I didn't know about.

She'll kick your ass, steal your wallet and all without spilling her drink
Jessica Jones Season 1 was such an amazing take on the comic books and really just gave me what I've been missing from the Marvel Universe. Krysten Ritter was not someone I would have picked to play Jessica Jones but she took the role by the horns and really just blew me away.
The show has some of the not only best female characters I've come across but has some of the best relationships between female characters which a lot of tv shows and movies miss out on for some reason.
For me though David Tennant was just the one that stole the entire show every time he was on screen he just drew you in and you just could not look away from him.

Simple, Elegant, Abstract battle card game, Battleline (the newer version) has some additional complexity
we take this with us on vacation, it's a 2 player game with just a deck or cards and 9 markers, which you can leave and home and pick up rocks or shells on the beach and use those... it's had to head and is as simple as playing a card and drawing a new one to replace it, the strategy comes from when you chose to put a card in a specific spot, and playing the odds, it's quick mayb 15 minutes per game, so we usually play best 2 of 3. but we have played marathon games of best of 11. A drink in one hand and the game on the table is nice way to enjoy the beach side resort, watching the sunset drop between turns. but maybe that's just me.

Severely underrated low budget English horror/thriller! Taking a very modern turn on the horror theme and tackling some very taboo ideas as a group of youngsters decide to live it up on holiday losing all their inhibitions as they drink, take drugs and have sex. During which a sex myth tried out leads to one of them dying. As the others battle their own conscience and morals as well as each other to get out of the mess they are in, only ending up in more extreme violence. A good idea for a film that dares to be different. Some may be put off by the sex scene which borders on porn and by the violence. However it does raise some good issues to make a graphic film. Another good entry in recent English horror films. The DVD has quite a few interviews with the cast, director both after and during the making of. Along with some deleted scenes and commentaries.

Theme works perfectly even if it's a bit distasteful
A great travel card game.
This game is a must when we travel. It plays elegantly two players, and even better with more players making it slightly more chaotic. The whole game is using the cards in your hand to manipulate the line in order to collect the most powerful heads from the guillotine during the french revolution. This game is super easy to teach: Here's your cards, read what they do.... each turn you can play one of them to change the line. After playing your card (or not) you get to collect the next "head" in line.
For something this simple there really shouldn't be as much depth to this game, but it does have some good strategy, and really is a good time. Plus it's quick, we play a game in about 15 minutes.... perfect for having a drink on a balcony overlooking the ocean, and working on the line.

We had seen this on Netflix and as it was down as a supernatural film we thought we would give it a go. It is over 2 hours and to be honest the first 75 minutes literally dragged, so much that we had to stop half way through to make a drink to stay awake. Gabriel Byrne is wasted in this as he is a very talented actor with such credits as Stigmata and End of Days but this failed to come close to any of those. Its a basic cult, resurrection film that doesn't even begin to look like it is until about twenty minutes to go. Its convoluted and has more plots that most Bruce Willis films. All in all i would not watch this if you are looking for a scary supernatural film. Its mre a toned down rosemary's baby type of thing.
Merissa (12030 KP) rated Witch Hunt (Preternatural Affairs, #1) in Books

Poor Cèsar. He just can't catch a break at the moment. He catches a criminal, goes out for a drink to celebrate and then things get a bit blurry. He wakes up with a hangover from hell and an apartment that's been trashed. What would you do?
This story all takes place during one week as Cèsar tries to figure out what's going on, who he can trust but more importantly who he can't. You are kept on your toes throughout the book as you wonder if that person was involved, or did that person have something to do with it. Cèsar has one helluva week.
Witch Hunt is full of twists and turns and gives you an insight into the Office of Preternatural Affairs and the Union, who we have met from the other side in the Descent series. It is a highly entertaining tale that is not as dark as some of S.M. Reine's previous works. Recommended.

Can picture this as a good film
7 people in a remote house in Ireland, booked as a B&B through an online app. A family of 3, A man and his father and 2 young ladies, both on their own.
The weather sets in and strange things start happening, from food and drink going missing to sounds of a child crying and power cuts, but when a body is found, things can only get worse...
You learn a lot obout the history of the house, the back ground of the guests, with some of the story told in flashback form, and it is difficult to try and second guess what is going to happen.
The author manages to make the setting very atmospheric and you can almost feel the tension and pressure they are suffering through the narrative...
If you are a fan of psychological thrillers either as a book or film you should enjoy this.
