Awix (3310 KP) rated The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006) in Movies

Really a film struggling to find a reason to justify its own existence: the plot is very forgettable and the rest of it rather so what - film attempts to make quest to go round corners sideways at high speed look like some kind of spiritual mission; essentially fails. Surprisingly unflattering to the Japanese characters, too; wouldn't happen nowadays. The movie's fascination with the fact some people have cameras on their phones is charmingly quaint, too. All the important parts of Tokyo Drift are recycled in later F&F movies, so you only really need to bother with this one if you're a completist.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2340 KP) rated Body on the Bayou (Cajun Country Mystery, #2) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
I completely enjoyed getting to revisit these characters. They are tons of fun, and the character growth we see in some of them is truly amazing. The plot is strong with lots of motives and secrets to keep us guessing until the logical conclusion. This is a strong second entry.
NOTE: I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2340 KP) rated Driving Heat (Nikki Heat, #7) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Whether a fan of the TV show Castle or not, you’ll find this is another great mystery. The start is a little slow, but once it gets going, the mystery contains plenty of twists and surprises. Nikki and Rook are great characters, but the rest are a bit under served. Of course, the in jokes and references to the show, while certainly not overdone, are an added bonus for fans of the show, but nothing that would ruin the book if you don’t get them.

Ross (3284 KP) rated Logan (2017) in Movies
May 29, 2018
The film sees Logan caring for Charles Xavier struggling with dementia and catastrophic seizures, driving a limousine to make ends meet in a world where mutants are outlawed. He ends up journeying across America with young Mexican mutant Laura, whose powers match Wolverine's. While the plot is not particularly new or complex, it is good enough to carry the action.
The action is so much darker and more bloody than in any other X-Men film - I strongly believe Deadpool opened the door for them to make a truly adult film (not like that!), with no spandex in sight.
I see this as the final chapter in Hugh Jackman's time as Wolverine, though I can see more life still in the X-Men franchise (or a re-boot thereof).

Sue (5 KP) rated Raspberry Danish Murder in Books
Aug 13, 2018
As Hannah tries to occupy herself with a baking frenzy for the holidays, she is thrown into a new mystery when PK (her husband’s assistant) is murdered while driving Ross’s car. Was Ross the intended victim and poor PK caught in the crossfires? Or was someone plotting against PK?
Hannah with the help of her sister Michelle, Norman, Mike, and Lonnie work to uncover the mystery and along the way discover that no one really knew Ross.
Joanne has a way of making you identify and care for all the characters in her mysteries. She keeps you guessing and weaves a very enjoyable tale. And who can forget all the yummy recipes that follow each chapter?!

Sarah (126 KP) rated Google Maps - GPS Navigation in Apps
Aug 25, 2018
Recommendations for places to go when you're in a new place can be so helpful. Similarly, the time estimates for arrival at the destination are excellent; far more accurate than previous GPS/Sat Nav type apps and devices I've used, as are the information on incidents and accidents on the route.
I only wish it could be easier to try to get a detour; sometimes you can end up stuck in a loop trying to get around a temporary road closure, meaning you need to pull over and amend the route manually. Of course, there will always be limits to what technology can do, and this really is an outstanding app.
