RPGMP3 (211 KP) rated Exploding Kittens in Tabletop Games
Apr 20, 2018
Nice Art (1 more)
Funny Theme
Not Very Replayable (1 more)
Mostly Luck
Not Enough Game
I really wanted to like Exploding Kittens. I Kickstartered the original. I bought the expansion hoping things would be better. Sadly, under the theme and the cute funny art, there really isn't much of a game here. Now it sits under other things in my small games closet and the large box for the expansion gets in the way when I am moving things around.
When people come over to play games, this is one of the games they always pull out wanting to try and this is always one of the games I try very hard to persuade them to put back into the dark corner of the gaming closet. When I first played it I though the art was nice and the theme was fun and I hoped I had missed something about the gameplay. But over time, as more people pull it out of the game closet and I am unable to persuade them otherwise I realize that there is very little here at all to make this game re-playable unless you are totally blind drunk - which I guess may be the point.
Hey - at least I don't have to wear rubber crab claws for this one.

Mark Halpern (153 KP) rated Rock of Ages (2012) in Movies
Jan 26, 2018
From Broadway to big screen
Rock of ages takes us on the story of a small town girl who is living in a lonely world, who comes to the bright light big city of Los Angeles only to get robbed and have to work at one of the most famous bars on the strip. This movie follows her story about life in the big city and living amonungst rock and roll during the 80's. She is up, she is down, and rises to top again but not in the way you think.
On Broadway Dee Snyder from Twisted sister played the lead character of Stacy Jaxx the famed rock and roller, who is drunk but is so popular who cares right. Our switch to Tom Cruise to film was not the right person to sing. He can act but, if we remember top gun lets be real.
Other major actors and singers who grace the silver screen in this movie are
Alec, Baldwin, Russel Brand, Catherine Zeta Jones, Julianne Hough and Mar J Blige.
The music and sound track were worth seeing the movie especially if you saw it on Broadway but this was yet another way to let america get to see a show that was only in NY.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2099 KP) rated How the Finch Stole Christmas! (Meg Langslow #22) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
This Christmas, Meg’s husband Michael has turned his one-man production of A Christmas Carol into a full play. In an effort to bring in more people to watch, Malcolm Haver has been cast as Scrooge. Malcolm is best known for a part in a cult TV show from 30 years ago, but he does have a loyal fan base. Unfortunately, he also has a habit of showing up late and drunk. In an effort to find out where Malcolm is getting his alcohol, Meg follows him from the theater one day. Where will Malcolm lead her?
While my teaser doesn’t reveal much of it, there is a mystery, even a murder, in this book. It’s just best to watch it all unfold for yourself. I did feel the ending was a tad weak, and the pacing was a little uneven early on, but these are minor complaints. I love these characters, and they are in fine form here. We get some laughs as grins along the way as always. Really, it’s hard to not have fun while reading this book.

Sarah (7798 KP) rated Flight (2012) in Movies
Oct 13, 2018
Watchable but very lacking
For a film by Robert Zemeckis, I was expecting something with a lot more heart and a little less predictable.
The problem with this film is that the main character Whip isn’t particularly likeable. Whilst Denzel Washington does his best and does bring some odd moments of likeability, it’s very difficult to connect with this film when Whip is not a very good person. Of course everything turns out the way you’d expect from the outset but this just makes for a bit of a dull watch. Kelly Reilly is sorely underused and her character just seems to have been thrown in a little haphazardly, making little of her and her journey. The visual effects of the crash itself are very good and the soundtrack is great, although it does throw back a little too much to Forrest Gump. The whole film drags and does get a little talky and dull. It also seems to be putting out a strange message about the effects of alcoholism, and yet how a pilot saved a flight whilst he was drunk and high.... very odd.
It’s the type of film you’d watch once and it’s bearable enough to watch to the end, but not one you’d go out of your way to watch again.

Amy Curtis (49 KP) rated Bad Santa (2003) in Movies
Dec 7, 2018
Easy watch
Contains spoilers, click to show
This is a film that I would say is okay. I've seen it advertised so many times and as I'm not a Christmas fan it wouldn't have been at the top of my "to watch" list anyway. However, for some reason the front cover just irritates me. Anyway, my boyfriend put it on the tele so I thought I might as well give it a go. It had some good comedic points in it but I wouldn't really say it's anything special. Willy has been playing Santa in shopping malls for years and on Christmas Eve, he helps to rob the mall by breaking into the safe. He is drunk and probably the worst Santa ever. Not anyone you would want near your children that's for sure. One kid in particular seems to touch a nerve with him and eventually he discovers that this kid is not being looked after once he decides to stay with him. The kid is being bullied and is the most kind-hearted child. The film takes you on a journey of bad Santa turning into okay santa. I would say that it is a watch for it's comedic value but other than that, I don't think I'd watch it again!

LoganCrews (2861 KP) rated Eddie Murphy Delirious (1983) in Movies
Apr 3, 2021
Has some all-timer bits, the entire segment with Eddie doing the drunk father routine had me doubled over in laughter - but otherwise disappointed to report that this is a mostly middling routine. Murphy's presence as a performer of course can never be understated, the dude is a force of nature even here at 22 and on SNL as young as 19. But this was *definitely* around the time where mainstream profanity (on this level, at least) in stand-up was still in its infancy and starting to become this enticingly risque thing because for the most part this uses vulgarity as a crutch in place of where a lot of these jokes need some room to breathe. I'm no stickler but the "lol I said dick!' act is only funny so many times, I adore caustic humor but when it's in service of such weaksauce, simple jokes it has all the nuance of a neckbeard Reddit post. Feels a lot like Chappelle's 𝘚𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘴 & 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴 in that it just seems like a surface-level attempt at provocation at times. Plus the transitions are super awkward. The first half is kind of boring though overall I did laugh quite a lot, but I left feeling almost nothing. Definitely not as iconic as the leather suit.

A Beautiful, Sobering Song (Pun Intended)
Tom MacDonald is known for being controversial. And while I'm not a huge rap fan (because I don't like to hear about drugs, violences, or "hoes"), I tend to like most of his songs.
But his newest song "Withdrawals" transcends everything else he has done. It is an honest, sobering, haunting song about going through withdrawals from alcohol or drugs, and you can tell that Tom has really lived through it.
Combining fantastic rap bars with a melodic hook, the song manages to stretch across genres and speak to anyone who has experienced the pain and trauma of trying to kick a bad habit.
The hook/chorus shows the duality present in an addict's mind where he really wants to stop making bad choices, but at the same time he really enjoys using chemicals to numb his mind:
"Deleted all the numbers from my phone, I'm staying home
Really wish that I was drunk with all my friends
I'll either beat it or I won't, and overdose
Really wish that I was high with all my friends."
What a great song, with a powerful message to help others overcome addiction. I love it.

Bong Mines Entertainment (15 KP) rated Oh No! - Single by EMAN8 in Music
Jul 10, 2019
EMAN8 (Brandyn Burnette) is an LA-based artist from Saint Louis, MO. Not too long ago, he released a groovy urban pop tune, entitled, “Oh No!”.
“Baby, you so sick you make me nausea. Please forgive me I’m just being cautious. I know that you got a couple of options. Lately, you’ve been checking all my boxers. All my homies told me not to fall for it. Put me on the court and I’ma ball for it. I just need to know if you are all in. I know that you’re drunk that’s why you’re calling.” – lyrics
‘Oh No!’ tells an interesting tale of a young guy who has high hopes for a problematic relationship which he shares with his significant other.
Apparently, he can’t believe what she tells him and can’t decipher if it’s a nightmare or dream that he has fallen deeply into.
Later, he admits that this was everything he ever wanted, but every day feels like it’s haunted.
‘Oh No!’ contains a cautionary storyline, harmonious vocals, and groovy instrumentation flavored with urban R&B and hip-hop elements.
EMAN8 hopes to emanate the true authentic vibration of his experiences, soundscapes, and songwriting.
His name comes from his Jamaican middle name “Emanate”, which means to come forth.
