Jane Green writes an emotionally packed book, that makes you laugh and cry and want to smack someone sometimes.
Emily is a teenager and her father is remarried. She 'hates' her step-mother, Andi. Her sister, Sophia, adores her. And, of course, her father, Ethan loves her. Her mother is a drunk and really pays no attention to her daughters, and all Emily does is act out.
Then something happens that turns everyone's life upside down and inside out.
This is a story that spans a journey of nearly 7 years. And in that time, we see how these characters grow and develop into individuals and as a family.

Wayne and Mitchum in a great western
A wandering gun for hire comes to the aid of his old friend, now a drunk local sheriff, when some bad men come into town and try and swindle a local family from their ranch's water. Along the way, he picks up a young knife-wielding sidekick to aid him in his quest.
One of the better Wayne westerns I have watched recently. Good action scenes, great acting and an interesting coherent story make this very memorable.
Great to see Wayne alongside Mitchum as well as a very young James Caan and Ed Asner.
Highly recommended.

Mountainous melodrama couples a rather corny, obscurely allegorical plot to some stunning visuals to reasonably engaging effect. A dancer (Riefenstahl) is drawn to the Alps, where she falls in love with an engineer; confusion and jealousy lead to jeopardy, stoic heroism, and ultimately tragedy.
I found the dramatic elements of the film to be rather hard going, and Riefenstahl's dancing, rather than evoking desire, just reminded me of a drunk woman trying to start a fight at a wedding reception. However, there are some fantastic compositions and the mountains still look awesome nearly a century on; the film may feel a bit pretentious but its imagery remains powerful.
I found the dramatic elements of the film to be rather hard going, and Riefenstahl's dancing, rather than evoking desire, just reminded me of a drunk woman trying to start a fight at a wedding reception. However, there are some fantastic compositions and the mountains still look awesome nearly a century on; the film may feel a bit pretentious but its imagery remains powerful.

It's taken me about three week to read this. Psychological thrillers aren't really my thing but every once in a while I branch out from my usual romance.
I now kinda wish I hadn't. It took me forever to find this interesting/exciting. And it seemed to repeat a lot of the same things; Rachel getting drunk, Rachel on the same train everyday, Rachel harassing her ex... I was very bored for a while. And then the ending didn't really surprise me. It was a slow realisation but once we found out who was behind it, I wasn't surprised.
Think I'll stick to my mix of romances from now on.

This story was right up my street. It had everything I look for in a book; humour, sexiness and a good plotline. So in my opinion Cora Carmack is a genius!
If you ask me, Garrick quite possibly pulled every single female reader within those first two chapters. Girls, he’s hot! In fact, Garrick seems pretty fecking perfect and I have to say I’m slightly jealous of Bliss. The rest of the characters are a fun bunch and when they do the whole getting drunk thing together I was laughing.
If you’re looking for a fun, sexy read then I recommend this book. It’s amazing!

This >> 𝘌𝘥𝘥𝘪𝘦 𝘔𝘶𝘳𝘱𝘩𝘺: 𝘋𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴, the blue leather suit >> the red leather suit - however - the drunk father bit from 𝘋𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 >> the drunk father bit from this (even if the toy factory stuff is still hilarious). One of the most optimized stand-up routines in all of comedy, tapers off a bit in the last half hour but otherwise most of this flows together perfectly - not a word wasted, not a word too heavy, not a word missing. A breathless, hysterical tirade of brute toxicity which many performers today try and fail to emulate with their "can't say ANYTHING these days amirite??" out-of-touch middle-aged man energy. A simple facet of comedy this exemplifies which the aforementioned curdled attempts at Reddit-tier provocation fail to realize is that you have to try to be funny first, *then* go for the offensive stuff. The crowdwork here is just insane, Murphy as a stage performer was unmatched in the 80s: the energy, the creativity, the gravitas, the sheer talent. Not only are his vocal impersonations on point as always, but so too are his physical ones - a simple change in glance and facial expression and you feel like you're *actually* watching that person until the real Eddie 'returns'. It's nuts. Then it's also got such infectious 80s flair and is one of the few stand-up movies where the skit stuff at the beginning is actually worthwhile (looking at you, 𝘒𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘯 𝘏𝘢𝘳𝘵: 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘕𝘰𝘸?). Lost its way
Not heard of this before it popped up on Sky cinema based on a successful novel of the same title. A different direction for Alexandra Daddario who seems to have churned out lots of low budget Rom Coms most recently.
This is an odd bleak character study which feels a bit like Lost in Translation crossed with 9 1/2 weeks but falling way short of either of them. Her character is a bit of drifter in Tokyo, always drunk and meeting random men for meaningless sex in the love hotels. Until she meets by chance a Yakuza gangster who she begins an affair with.
There was a lot more potential in this, it tries to be quite art house but most of the film is filled with shots of her drunk in a bar with friends, staggering around Tokyo at night or with random men. The Yakuza angle is barely explored with Kazu and they spend very little time together as well. Apparently a good 45mins has been cut and the film has been on the shelf a while after being filmed late 2017.
The end result is a brief character study of someone at rock bottom of life. Unfortunately it's quite dull for the most part, not erotic either. It's a shame as it could have been a lot better with a few plot angles explored more.
