A refreshingly different Christmas film
A Christmas horror film really shouldn't work, but for the most part it actually does. It's strange, as you usually associate Christmas films with sickly sweet happiness, but this is the complete opposite and it's a nice change.

It's funny, dark and doesn't take itself too seriously. The physical effects and make-up are very good, although some of the CGI is questionable in parts. It has a great cast and I loved the idea behind Krampus and also the strange ending. My only criticism would be that it could have been a lot scarier. It was creepy at times but I think it concentrated more on the laughs than the horror, which is a shame as a scary Christmas horror film would be truly terrifying.

Mediocre Magic
There are some questionable creative decisions in this movie and it is extremely cheesy at times, but if you liked the first one then this is more of the same. It isn’t a bad movie and all of the cast do a fine job, Lizzie Caplan is probably the stand out performance here, every time she is on screen she is full of energy and highly entertaining. The special effects are good and although it is a fairly silly plot, it works for what it is. The same goes for the movie, if you take it for what it is, (a corny, fun, popcorn flick,) then you will have a good time with this one, just don’t go in expecting Oscar material.

The fragility of youth under guise of a cult
A very descriptive and interesting concept tackling the effects of being a vulnerable child being manipulated by a cult. While it describes how all young people are fragile and are desperate to find a place in the world, the author seems to lack somewhere, and the narrative seems slightly disjointed.

There isn't much of an explanation for the adult Evelyn and it leaves a massive hole between the young and older versions of the main character.

There is also a lack of character build up of the members of the cult, and it does not explain what happened to the Manson-like cult leader in the end. Overall, a little long for a plot with too many questions but a great idea.

Epic
This is the first Final Fantasy I've played since X-2, and I was worried it had changed too much for me to like it anymore, but my worries were unfounded.

This is a fantastic game. Not for people who don't like RPGs, but if you love side quests and epic stories, then this is a great game to play. The world itself is immense, the effects are brilliant and the game play time is very worth the money. Although I've finished the main story, I still haven't finished all of the side quests!

My only negatives about this game is the dialogue and the ending. Playing lots of side quests etc means the talking gets very repetitive. And without giving anything away, the ending was just beyond depressing.

Ugh, I'm about two chapters away from finishing this game and I am SO not ready for the end. The story has emotionally damaged me enough as it is! The game is super fun to play though, so kudos to Square for at least making it worth the many year wait.

If a ever go deaf, it will be because of Predator!
I found a used Blu Ray at a local shop for $1.99 so I decided to upgrade my existing DVD and boy was it worth it. The picture and sound quality was amazing (deafening).

Almost everything about the film holds up given this is my 20+ viewing. Has to be in the top 5 action films of all time right along side Die Hard and Terminator 2: Judgement Day.

The remote setting, characters, musical score, tension, slow burn reveal and screenplay all lend to the pristine action and compelling storytelling here.

A have to admit a few optical effects and the Predator suit do look a bit dated now, but that does not impact my review.

Such a classic!

Yeah. I upgraded mine from DVD to the Ultimate Edition BD and it was great. Read a few complaints over the remastering of this disc, with many noting that the image has been smoothed out too much, removing almost all the grain. This is true but despite this, it is still a great image. But for those who want the grain intact, the 4K version has it all.

Either an ironic commentary on the alienation of modern man and the dehumanising effects of modern production techniques, or two idiots in bowler hats smashing everything up by accident. The usual miraculous Laurel and Hardy alchemy is in play, manifesting in the duo's ability to milk a joke longer than is surely humanly possible - on this occasion with the 'walking into a plank' bit and the extended sequence in which Ollie gets a paintbrush glued to his chin and Stan has the job of removing it.

One of the pair's denser, more relentless comedies in terms of jokes, most of them good ones - the indiscriminate property damage is also more extravagantly spectacular than in many of their films. Written by Stan, but as ever the magic is in the two of them together.

Hugely likeable, tongue-in-cheek mash-up of monster movie and crime drama. An ancient Aztec dragon-bird-god begins terrorising window-cleaners, construction workers and other people on top of high buildings in New York. Small-time crook (Moriarty) comes across the lair but will only tell heroic detective (Carradine) if the price is right.

The stuff with the monster is grisly good fun, while the more down to earth scenes are lifted hugely by the terrific performance of Moriarty, who seems to think he's appearing in a John Cassavetes film. The special effects are heroically over-ambitious and a subplot about an Aztec cult committing human sacrifices feels like an awkward afterthought, but that just adds to the entertainment value of an unashamed exploitation movie, and a mighty fine one too.

Ok
This movie was another "be quiet or die" horror film. It wasn't too bad for what I'd label a "made for tv" movie. The acting was just ok. If you can't read sign language, you might not understand some of their conversations but you get the gist. The cinematography was decent with some cool creatures(may little things!) and effects, without getting too gory. While it played out to an open ended "anti"-climax it did show that people can sometimes turn out to be worse than the liberal monsters with the "cult" they run into. Overall this movie was good enough to finish but, in my opinion, "A Quiet Place" did it a bit better. Still, it's worth a watch if you're bored and looking for a little "creature feature".

Well now. End Game. This may not be popular with some people, but it is my honest opinion. It is a brilliantly made film, but I would expect nothing less from Marvel. It has a fantastic cast and the idea and story are excellent. With all that and all that has come before it, my expectations were high. It has a great mix of humour, drama and action; it has amazing effects; a few good twists and some interesting things for future development. Unfortunately I was a little disappointed, it was really good but it wasn't great. Maybe the fault lays with me and my expectations were too high. I can honestly say that IMHO Avengers Assemble (the first full Avengers film) is still the best Marvel film.

The Abyss (1989)
The Abyss (1989)
1989 | Mystery, Sci-Fi
James Cameron makes his second appearance on this list with 1989’s The Abyss. This terrifying film that gave countless children nightmares for months follows a civilian diving team as they are enlisted to search for a lost nuclear submarine. Unbeknownst to them, danger lurks in the deep when they encounter an alien aquatic species.

The special effects may look dated by today’s standards, but The Abyss is over 25 years old and still looks pretty darn good, even in 2019 when CGI has come on so far. Ed Harris puts in a fantastic performance and the eerie depths of the ocean are only matched by the blankness of space in modern-day sci-fi movies. Truly horrifying.
