Blake Crouch | 2016 | Fiction & Poetry
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the entire concept and how it played by its own rules to the very end. I loved it's treatment of the "What if?" concept and the idea of branching realities. The characters were engaging and realistic. The Protagonist makes real decisions which leads to real consequences, well real within the rules of the book. The world building was very well done. I'm encouraged to look into more of Crouch's work due to this book!

"Blake Crouch knows how to write sci-fi thrillers that will have you desperately turning the pages long into the night. (And that’s as someone who doesn’t even like that many sci-fi stories or thrillers.) Recursion is out of this world fascinating and kept me guessing even to the very end."

"It just gets me in the right mood. Every time I listen to it, I know it's time to race, time to go out there and go for the gold. At the end of the day, no matter how many gold medals I have, or how many world records I break, I am still hungry and sky's the limit."

This was an interesting read as it's a part of history that I don't often read about (i.e. the development of the atomic bomb during World War II). I liked the attempt to tell a variety character's experiences woven through a single plot, but it end up just not working for me. I felt a bit distant from all of the characters, some of which are actually unlikeable and never redeem themselves.
