TravelersWife4Life (31 KP) rated Scrumptious Independence (Merriweather Island #2) in Books
Feb 23, 2021
Next in the independence Island series…Scrumptious Independence by Melissa Wardwell! I have been looking forward to this book for months. and boy was it worth the wait. I loved her balance of character interaction with the emotions and memories she invoked in me through her characters. It truly was a fun book to read that I had a hard time putting down.
I thought Melissa Wardwell did a great job engaging not just your eyes but your memories too! From her yummy sounding recipes (that may or may not have set off a cooking spree, much to my husband’s delight), to the hints of a mystery within, added with a dash of super sweet romance between Beth and Scott… I mean what more can I say? This book is a recipe for a good clean engaging read. Well done Melissa Wardwell, now I can’t wait to see what will happen on the Merriweather Islands next

Solid but faintly generic thriller is given a distinct boost by a strong cast and script. Natascha McElhone plays a woman from County Leprechaun who assembles a team of mercenaries to steal a box (which is a McGuffin of the purest kind). On the roster are Robert De Niro, Jean Reno, Sean Bean, and Stellan Skarsgard, not all of whom are wholly reliable. Soon enough engines are revving, bullets flying, crosses being doubled, and meets going bad.
Thematically (as well as chronologically) this is somewhere between Mission: Impossible and the first Bourne film, initially given a wistful, existential quality by the script (co-written by David Mamet under a pseudonym). It gives an extra lift to what was already a very robust and engaging thriller. What really makes it sing are the action scenes and car chases, which are superb. The movie cops out in a few places, particularly the end, but remains extremely engaging and polished: superior stuff.

This is the third book in this series by this author. This book is just as amazing as the others. Another excellent romantic suspense story, you won't want to put down. This story is well written, with an engaging story line. The characters are complexed and very interesting. I can't wait for more in this series and by this author in the future.

Not bad attempt to mix "The Happening" and "A Quiet Place" Sandra Bullock is as always watchable these days in this mash up disaster movie.
It's really not as bad as others say, and the story is somewhat engaging though full of plot holes.
The cast are pretty decent, however John Malkovich is terribly underused and his character hamstrung by the average script, raises more questions than answers!

Written as a modern tribute to the pulp horror paperbacks of the 80's, it doesn't manage to live up to the best of its inspirations. There are very few genuinely frightening moments and the story at times seems more than a little silly. Still, it was largely engaging; and there is a serious lack of this type of book being made anymore. Enjoyable enough for fans of the genre to check out.

I really enjoyed this novel and am still a bit surprised that it still hasn't been made into a movie. I thought the concept was pretty creative, and this first novel in particular was well told.
On the other hand, I do feel that the series drops off a bit in the subsequent books. They all connect seamlessly, and the stories are all satisfying, just not as engaging as some of its contemporary YA novels.

I was not a fan of this docu-series based on the pizza bombing in PA. It wasn't engaging, and it was pretty boring. I didn't feel any sympathy for any of the characters, and the back and forth was irritating to me. Was the victim a victim, or part of the whole thing? Honestly, I didn't care, and I found it hard to watch until the end.
Evil genius? Yeah...ok.

This is amazing. It really gets you invested in the characters, the dog is so adorable, and the story is nice.
I like to stop half way, because then it is just a feel good family movie, and I will not bawl my eyes out

As from my title, this is a type of game you've probably seen several versions of, and it's nothing new. However I still very much enjoy these type of games, with it being a big hit with those I play board games with.
If you've never tried this type of game before I would certainly recommend the purchase.
