Andrew Furlong (14 KP) rated Star Trek IV - The Voyage Home (1986) in Movies
Sep 27, 2017
An absolutely ridiculous premise, turned into an actually good film (4 more)
Lots of "funny fish out of water" comedy
Every character gets their moment to shine
The whale probe has an aura of mystery about it
Infectiously upbeat
Not as thematically engaging as previous films (2 more)
May be too light for some
Saavik is dropped randomly
The funniest Trek
"The one with the whales" might seem ridiculous at first glance, but it's played with such sincerity and heart from the cast that it becomes genuinely funny and endearing. A great crowdpleaser.
Chris Hooker (419 KP) rated Chaos Comes (After the EMP #4) in Books
Dec 30, 2017
This is a continuation of the After the EMP series. This is a more of a companion trilogy since it mirrors the timeline of events in Darkness Begins. The characters are connected since Colt is the air marshall on the flight that Madison's dad was the pilot.
It is a tale of survival and finding allies in unexpected places. Colt finds his in a street child named Dani. This is just the beginning of their story. It is a well written, entertaining book with engaging characters and plot.

Game changer
Going to see his film at the cinema with my dad was one of those memorable evenings because neither of us had seen the trailer or knew what to expect. Wow did we get a good couple of hours. Jaw dropping effects and a story so engaging and yet so different that our minds were blown for a couple of days after. Keanu Reeves in the role of Neo and linking up with the white rabbit will always be on top of my best ever films list.
Cal Brown (53 KP) rated Marvel's Luke Cage - Season 1 in TV
May 16, 2017
References the Marvel world abundantly. (3 more)
The soundtrack incredulously represents the setting of Luke Cage.
A wonderful display of diverse characters.
Interesting representation of 'African-American' culture within Harlem.
A few poor action cuts and transitions which slightly break the suspension of disbelief. (2 more)
Fight scenes are slow and simple. This could be to represent Luke Cage's nature but I don't believe it to be a sufficient and engaging representation.
Feels like it awkwardly misses something mid season after specific events happen (no spoilers). The transition of the story is poorly executed.
Powerman (Luke Cage)
Chris Hooker (419 KP) rated Breaking Point (Article 5, #2) in Books
Jan 12, 2018
[Kristen Simmons] continues the extraordinary dystopian story of Chase and Ember in [Breaking Point]. The concepts of what the US government has become in these books is nightmarish. The evolution of the characters who are coming of age in these books is thought provoking. It was hard for me to put the book down because I became so engaged with Ember and Chases struggle. I recommend this book for anyone who likes a well paced story with engaging characters. I will also recommend these books for my school library.
Suswatibasu (1701 KP) rated Try Not to Breathe in Books

Clichéd protagonist, obvious culprit
I think this tried very hard to be different from Girl On A Train, but the alcoholic neurotic main character was two dimensional and boring.
Similarly there were a ghastly amount of clichés - "smiled like a Cheshire cat" - and I had figured out who it was about 60 per cent of the way in to the novel.
Downsides aside, it is still engaging to a certain extent but keep in mind that it might not be so dissimilar from current plots in this genre.

Enjoyed this book immensely. I found I was constantly entertaining possible who done its through out the entire book. I found myself staying up late at night because I couldn't go to sleep because if I put the book down, I was constantly thinking about what would happen next. I was happy to finish the book and sad at the same time. This book is well thought-out and the characters are engaging from the moment they are introduced. The story line was fast paced and compelling. Fantastic read and would highly recommend this book.
Samantha (67 KP) rated Dorothy Must Die in Books
Jul 6, 2017
An interesting continuation of the Wizard of Oz
As a Wizard of Oz adaptation I found this novel to be interesting as it focuses on issues such as greed, trust and power that are prevalent in modern society as underlying themes. Overall, I found the novel to be engaging through its twisted interpretation of what happens after Dorothy returns to Kansas. Despite this, it should be noted that there are parts of this work that drag a little due to a lack of action in chapters that are focused on character and plot development.
MelanieTheresa (997 KP) rated Zoo in Books

I have always found the concept of HAC (human animal conflict) highly intriguing. The idea that one day the animals will take back the planet? I find this not only completely believable, but entirely possible. The reason given for the HAC in this book (I won't spoil it) is also completely believable, AND entirely possible, in my opinion. I was riveted from start to finish. This may be one of my favorite recent James Patterson books. The story was well told, engaging, and when you really think about it, kind of terrifying.

Fun Party game which is simple to grasp
I bought this game as I needed something to get delivery on amazon... It was the best thing I could have done
This game was exceptionally enjoyable, you play against each other whilst playing against you possible demise as you can die of lack of oxygen at any point. Played it 5 times and have only had a winner once, as the other times we all died from oxygen loss.
