I really enjoyed E C Fremantle’s last book (The Poison Bed) and this didn’t disappoint either. Historical fiction is one of my favourite genres, and this is rich in historical detail, both in the way that people lived and their social attitudes. It’s great stuff!

Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated Inside Out (Insider, #1) in Books

Unfortunately, for me, this one fell flat. The storyline didn't pull me in right away (or ever, if I'm being brutally honest) and I didn't connect with the characters or their plight to escape Inside.
I was just determined to not have another DNF so I persevered and finished it last night.
I've also tried reading one of the author's other works and I couldn't get into that either so I think this will be the last and only book I read by Maria V. Snyder

Charlotte (184 KP) rated The Assassin's Legacy (Minte and Magic Adventure #2) in Books
Dec 17, 2021 (Updated Dec 17, 2021)
Filled with fun, banter and cheeky assassins what's not to like?
The Assassin's Legacy is a good all around read. I love the different themes, monsters, family dynamics and folklore. Sasha is a charming man that just wants a peaceful life..... Don't we all? I really feel for him, trying to leave his past behind but being pulled back in and not in a good way!
A young adult plus read that will have you entertained from start to finish. Grab a cuppa, some biscuits and settle in for a cracking read.
@Merissa
I know the games exist.
I've never played them (Xbox exclusive, I prefer PlaySatation).
So I can't compare and contrast with the source material, although I know plenty were up in arms over the liberties taken and the fact that the Master Chief seems to spend about 90% of his time wandering around with his helmet off!
Setting that aside, however, I did find this to be generally engaging - no so much the Dune stand-in Kwan Ha segments - with some episodes better than others.
Interested to see where it goes from here!
