Much better than expected
Mainstream comedies really aren't my thing, but I have to admit I'm pretty impressed with this film. I wasn't expecting much, but its actually pretty funny.

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum work really well together, although you do have to suspend all disbelief that they could ever be mistook for high school students. Which in all fairness is referred back to in the film for a few laughs. The other cast work well too, and there's a fun surprise cameo from original Jump Street star Johnny Depp.

The plot itself is silly but a bit of fun. Having the two leads switch characters by mistake leaving Tatum as the science geek and Hill as the all star sports player makes it so much funnier. I also think the school environment with the environmentally friendly students as the cool kids is a great idea. The comedy too also doesn't rely solely on crude jokes which is a refreshing change, and I do think Ice Cube is one of the funniest things about this film.

This movie, staring Bones from the new Star Trek movies, follows a viking boy who was left behind in America and raised by natives 600 years before Columbus. 15 years later, and the vikings are back to try and settle America. And who else to fight them but another viking who has made these people his family?

Okay, I enjoyed this film but

A) it was very gorey

B) while the time line is linear because the environment is constantly changing it gets a little hard to follow

C)I see why this film, to my knowledge, wasn’t very popular when it came out in 2007. The pacing isn’t great for the average TV goer.

I am also unsure about how they portrayed vikings in this movie. Would they bring horses with them? Would they go to this extent when trying to settle a place by killing everyone and not taking any slaves?

The plot line was interesting if a bit slow, and if you enjoy fight scenes this could be a good movie for you.

This was such a great book! I wasn't sure what to expect...some chic lit, sugary sweet book or what. But let me tell you, it is NOT that all! Was it feel good? Yes, but it was all also very raw, emotional, & unexpected.
It tells the story of Ethan and Andi who meet through an on-line dating service and eventally marry. Ethan is a divorcee with 2 girls, the oldest of whom, Emily, resents Andi's presence in their lives from day 1. The book tells the story of Andi's fertility troubles, the marriage, interaction with her step-daughters, and their day to day lives.
Eventually the toxic environment that Emily creates & Ethan's enabling of her, leads to the downfall of the marriage...almost. But then, Emily gets pregnant. That's where the real action begins. I don't want to say much more for fear of giving away too much of the plot. I can say that this book has all the hallmarks I look for in a great read...romance, drama, deep characters, believability, etc.
Check it out!

The footnotes, so many footnotes
Some interesting points made, but...
Narrative history that sometimes misses deeper analysis of why it happened. It seems well researched, using the accounts of the period. I don't generally have an issue with footnotes, but I think the author overuses them sometimes, and many of the footnotes could be incorporated into the text or dropped entirely as they sometimes go off at a tanget. Not always a fan of her writing, it's quite wandering and tries to mix an accesible history style with more of an academic writing style. It doesn't really give the reader a great sense of the period atmosphere and concentrates very heavily on what happened at the trials. She was apparently deliberately avoiding explainations, however she attempts to explain the instigators' "hysteria" that originally prompted the accusations of witchcraft; that the symptoms occured in the parsonage, the most repressive environment. The accusations gained the "victims" attention and a respite from chores. I was surprised that there was no map of the village.

Do your children like have adventures? This book has an adventure in it. It about a dolphin that needs help. Children will learn about animals and their habits. We meet a marine worker at the national reserve.

The children learn about animal care and what do if there a problem. Will Terry be able to help the little dolphin that something is wrong. I also enjoy the pictures in the book. They tell the story if your child it young to read it himself or herself. Parents can read this book to their child as well. It easy to read for children that are beginning to read books or learning to read books.

This is sweet and quick adventure book. It a wonderful book for though that love animals. They can learn about environment and animal habit at the same time. The author does a wonderful job with the story and it meaning. I recommend these books for young readers or beginner readers and parents with young children.
