"Taken together, Edward Yang’s two masterpieces run nearly seven hours. I would give almost anything for more of either. Mathematically structured and teeming with ideas, characters, wisdom, and feeling, they move with astonishing humanity through every big thing: love, family, alienation, technology, cinema, politics, globalism, history, regret, obsession, murder, sex, time, adolescence, and so much more. Despite their novelistic hugeness, Yang’s genius feels approachable rather than impossible. (As opposed to Hou Hsiao-hsien, for example.) This quality also inspires the tantalizing thought that, hey, I could do that. No, no I can’t. I really encourage listening to the wonderful commentaries on both: Edward Yang and critic Tony Rayns for Yi Yi, and, in an act of epic insight, Rayns solo for A Brighter Summer Day."

"It’s this old Hollywood musical variety show type of thing. Really epic Technicolor. There’s an Esther Williams thing in there where she’s just swimming and being beautiful. It’s a beauty-based film. All the money wasn’t popped into special effects, obviously. It was popped into building really grand sets, really great costumes, really, really good makeup. Like, whatever. I saw that in college. One of my friends showed it to me in his apartment. I was like, “What the f— is this?” And then I bought the DVD and [now] I toss it in once a month, at least in the background. I don’t really actually follow the movie straight through. I just kinda fast-forward to the parts that look cool."

Question
This looks like an epic film and I'd love to see it. However, I am highly claustrophobic and have seen trailers that show men trapped in planes underwater (drowning is another one of my phobias) so I don't know if I can handle watching it. The first time I saw Titanic, I had pressure in my chest from a rising panic attack that was so severe it felt as if I was in chest-deep water like Jack and Rose. I still have trouble getting through the scene when he's handcuffed in the purser's office (or wherever.) So, are there many scenes in Dunkirk that show underwater or claustrophobic situations, or do you think I can get through the movie without freaking out?

I would say that if you have an issue watching drowning, you probably wouldn't be able to make it through the film. A lot of it is filmed to purposely make you feel claustrophobic and like you're in the situation with the characters.
