Kevin Wilson (179 KP) rated The Last Showing (2014) in Movies

Not believable but I understand this is a low budget movie with a small cast. I went into this with low expectations and I have to say it was better than I expected.
It has now cemented the fear of going to the cinema of a night time so the movie did a good job with that.
Robert Englumd is incredible as this manipulative psychotic creep. He is sinister yet he brings so much depth to the role that you feel some kind of understanding as to why he's doing this. The other male lead was not that likeable. He was outsmarted time and time again and the female lead had little screen time sadly.
Premise is simple about a guy sick of the current cheesy horror movies about now, gets fired so decides to makes his own horror movie. I would really call this a horror though, more a suspenseful thriller. It was interesting to see the story play out through so much manipulation and planning by the sinister Stuart.
Full of suspense throughout but could have had more, it kind of lose me towards the end but I must say the ending was very satisfying.
Alison Pink (7 KP) rated The Rebel Wife in Books

Gus is a very strong female character despite the way it looked at the beginning of the book. She learns to rely on herself & who she really can trust with some rather shocking results. Unfortunatly the book dragged for me. The ending was spectacular, but the lead up to it seems to ramble on and on with not much happening. With that being said though the character dynamics are what really made the book for me. It was by no means awful, it just had the potential to be so much more than it turned out to be.
Britt Smith (36 KP) rated Salt (2010) in Movies

The downfall comes at the ending, however, that seems to just fall short with me. Now, don't get me wrong I love what happens in the final scene and wish there would have been more with that. It's just that it turns a little contrived and doesn't sell where the story felt like it was going for me. Then again, with the fighting styles, I had really high exceptions for it.
Overall, it's worth the watch and deserves a place on the hit list. I watch it probably a handful of times a year.
David McK (3425 KP) rated Live and Let Die (James Bond, #2) in Books

You used to say live and let live
(you know you did you know you die you know you did)
But in this ever changing world in which we live in
Makes you give in and cry ...
Live and let die ..."
(cue guitar riff)
With that out of the way - Paul McCartney and Wings, later covered by Guns 'N Roses - Live and Let Die is the second James Bond book by Ian Fleming, but the eighth film in the series, and the first to star Roger Moore in the lead role.
And reading it with contemporary eyes, boy has it aged. Quite different than the movie - although the key elements (vodoo, Baron Samedi, Solitaire, American southwest setting) are intact, it can also be quite uncomfortable reading this with modern sensibilities, particularly in how Flemings (and Bond) treats the female characters, and in how the Harlem culture and denizens are portrayed.
Allowances must be made, I suppose, for the time period in which it was written ...
