I absolutely loved it. The sex scenes are hot and so well done, the characters are really good and I just adore Minaeven more now she a a hot demon side too. Sometimes a female lead can become irritating but not here. Lexie is quite aggressive in her writing and also very honest and I think that’s refreshing. I loved book one too so can’t to read book 3!
Kaz (232 KP) rated Testimony. Anita Shreve in Books

'At a New England boarding school, a sex scandal is about to break. Even more shocking than the sexual acts themselves is the fact that they were caught on videotape. A Pandora's box of revelations, the tape triggers a chorus of voice -- those of the men, women, teenagers, and parents involved in the scandal -- that details the ways in which lives can be derailed or destroyed in one foolish moment.
A gripping emotional drama with the pace of a thriller, Anita Shreve's Testimony explores the dark impulses that sway the lives of seeming innocents, and the ways in which our best intentions can lead to our worst transgressions.'
My Thoughts:
This novel is set in a prestigious private school in America, where a sex tape involving some of the pupils is found by the principal. What follows, are the after effects of such a scandal.
It actually took me over 100 pages to get into this story, mostly because of the way it was written. This shifts from different character perspectives and has very different writing styles too, so I really found it difficult to settle into this book.
I almost DNF'ed this book actually, because for quite a lot of the novel, there seemed to be a lot of negativity towards the female participant of the sex tape and the men weren't seen to be as responsible as the woman involved. Whilst the female 'victim' isn't a nice character and she is just as much to blame as the others, I was surprised that, because the writer of this book is female, that she chose to focus the blame more on her, than the men. I think that it could have been more balanced.
However, I admit that this did level out as the plot unfolded.
This book wasn't plot driven, but I think it is a good examination of the problems of teen sex and alcohol abuse. This was an interesting read.
My Rating ***

LeftSideCut (3776 KP) rated Wishmaster 2: Evil Never Dies (1999) in Movies

Wishmaster 2 is a big step down from the first film in almost every way. In its defense, it had a pretty small budget, but Christ it looks cheap. All of the characters are boring and under-developed, the lead character is somehow more irritating than the girl from the first Wishmaster, some of the acting on display is pretty horrific and the sound mix is just all over the place.
I found myself forgetting the general plot as I was watching it - what the fuck was that Russian gangster side plot all about?
If there are some positives to take from Wishmaster 2 (and believe me, there aren't many) then the best one is obviously Andrew Divoff, returning as The Djinn. He hams it up a storm, and provides the only entertainment value this movie has to offer. I will also say that the make up work on his demonic form looks pretty good.
Aside from that, there are a couple of good gore scenes, the guy forcing himself through the prison bars is a particularly gratuitous and bloody moment and the practical effects are decent enough, it's just that these fleeting moments of something resembling quality are few and far between. There's also a bit where a guy contorts his body to literally fuck himself, so there's that...
Overall then, Wishmaster 2 is pretty crap, which is a shame, as the flawed but entertaing first movie showed some franchise potential. Can't wait to put myself through Wishmaster 3 and 4....
ArecRain (8 KP) rated Ivan (Her Russian Protector, #1) in Books

I made an exception in this case and I was not disappointed. The only negative comment I can make about this novel was that it felt like the couple had instalove. This is a trope I have always disliked. I am not saying I dont believe people can have an immediate connection. I just dont like when from the moment they meet, the couple knows that the other person is the one for them.
That being said, I felt that the author did a pretty good job for such a short story. I wish there had been more character development and build up to their relationship but it didn't detract from the story. Ivan was so sweet to Erin. He seemed to genuinely care about her and was honest with her the entire time. Don't get me wrong, in some places, it was super cheesy and some of the dialogue during the sex scenes should have been left out. Everything he seemed to do centered around making her happy and protecting her. And she appreciated it! She wasn't some spoiled feale either. She can take care of herself if need be.
What I really appreciated, however, smart Erin acted. She realized that she was delving into a world where she was at a disadvantage so when Ivan asked her to do something, she did it. She knew that when he was instructing her to do something, it was because it was the best route. She didnt just do whatever she wanted and make the situation worse. I am not saying a woman has to blindly follow what their man tells them to do. I just loath when the female lead does whatever she wants because, in reality, had shethought about her actions a little longer, she would realize it probably wasnt the best to take.
What I am trying to say, is that Ivan and Erin were a team that listened and talked to each other. They genuinely cared about each other and worked together towards a common goal. They spent the entire novel loving each other instead of fighting. I just dont understand those novels..
