It's A Blast
This movie is directed by David Leitch, the guy who did the John Wick movies, so going in what I expected was essentially John Wick with a female lead. This movie turned out to be much more than that. There is an interesting narrative built around the fast paced action and the characters are all well rounded. Theron is brilliant in the lead role, MacAvoy is also fantastic as per usual. The rest of the cast including John Goodman, Sofia Boutella and Eddie Marsen are good too. The soundtrack and backdrop of this movie provide an interesting tone also and overall, it is a fantastic spy action thriller.

I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

The second work I read by this author, and I honestly enjoyed it more. That may have more to do with the fact that I love friends to lovers stories. While I understand the male lead’s hesitation, I feel that it’s less realistic in adults especially since his torture is self-induced. I was also annoyed that the female lead was crushing on him even though she brought a date with her. I find that tasteless and childish.

Ignoring all that, it was a cute quick read with enough heat between the leads to make it feel real and the author is great at writing engaging dialogue.

Progress: Evolution of Technology
Progress: Evolution of Technology
2014 | Card Game, Civilization
I love this game! It is very similar to 7 Wonders in that you progress through the game by evolving or upgrading your technology. For example, you might start with the ability to farm papyrus. This will eventually lead you to be able to make paper. Once you have paper, you can then learn to write and create poetry, and so on. I love that it shows the hole process broken down. Another thing I thought was really wonderful about this game was that throughout the entire rule book, players are referred to using feminine pronouns. The fact that the creators of this game are aware that there are female gamers is awesome, and that there are female gamers that are into technology, was totally cool. Mad kudos to the creators for that!

Busy but interesting
This story has a lot going on. In fact, it was slightly difficult for me to follow at times... granted that may be because I watch it at the end of the day when I'm already mentally exhausted. Overall, I enjoy the show, though I'm not a huge fan of the female lead. She's occasionally difficult to understand and slightly annoying. I do really enjoy the Edgar Allen Poe AI.

I haven't read the books but they're on my TBR list.

Atomic Blonde? Mrs and Mrs Smith? The Long Kiss Goodnight? Not like any of them.
Over the last circa 5 years or so, I've noticed a growing trend of 'beautiful female assassin's' movie (think 'Atomic Blonde'. 'Anna'. 'Mr and Mrs Smith'. 'Red Sparrow').

While the poster for this 2020 production might lead you to think the same of this - as, indeed, did the inclusion of Geena Davis ('The Long Kiss Goodnight') in the cast list - this is actually a very different type of movie, more concerned with the lead character's family dysfunctions than with the action scenes (of which there are only a few).

Overall, I wasn't really that impressed with this - and I'd forgotten how annoying Colin Farrell was - and actually found myself 'tuning out' on more than one occasion.

I had high hopes for this book. The plot is right up my alley with the mythology aspect and I was curious to see where the author would take it. Unfortunately, I found myself jaded with it by the time I finished. There seems to be a lot to the story that the author isn’t telling. I am not sure if she planned on elaborating in future installments, but she doesn’t even give us enough to really be curious. For example, the female lead will make a mental comment about her master but that’s it.

The leads were also much to be desired. There wasn’t anything about the lead female to make me like her. In fact, I felt disconnected from her as person in general.

I think my biggest problem was that I was a disappointed there wasn’t more erotica to it. We are given two scenes and they are so short I wondered why the author wasted her time. I loved the world and mythology the author created, but I guess it just wasn’t the story I wanted.

Again, The Rock brought it home...
Love any movies with a strong Male lead as long as they also have a strong female that makes them remember they have a soft side too. Seeing the lengths a father and husband would go to save his family despite any limitations was wonderful. Just enough action/drama ratio so ladies will enjoy and men will not get bored.

I found this book at a used bookstore. I have read Wrede before and it was fun reading something from her earlier works and seen how much she had grown as an author.
This book was written at a time when female characters were not normally a lead, so there is a few stumbles as she establishes her world and where everything is going. It can be a bit predictable and underwhelming at places. but all in all an easy read that shows potential and fun take on the epic genre.

What's more terrifying...
What you can't see,
Or what you can't remember?

Since her divorce, Kendall Madison has been in over her head. Between trying to make ends meet, raising three kids, and hunting ghosts,
Kendall just can't seem to find balance in her life. When she finally lands a job right up her alley, she hopes it’s a sign for better things ...

Brilliant!! So many books write their female leads to be hot single women this was so refreshing to have a female lead with a normal life, the daily struggles as a parent, then she kicks ass in the supernatural world too. It was so well written and such an enjoyable read. I'm definitely rooting for Malcolm in this one and can't wait to discover more now Kendall has her memories back!

I love marvel but have not committed to watching them all yet, what better time to do this than in lockdown?

Decided to go for the chronological order with this being my second one. I love the plot mentions to other films and the clever way they have fit it into the universe. The makeup and space parts of the film are great.

Also Jude Law....... 😍

I felt the concept of her regaining her memory could have been better explained and a longer process. Although I understand why it isn't. I found either the scripting or the acting for Brie Larsson to be quite false and the humourous/sassy sections forced. I was fully up for Captain Marvel being my next female icon but she didnt hit the mark (sorry).
