This was my first historical fiction story. I wasn't planning on reading it at first because I knew historical fiction wasn't my thing but I just kept hearing how great it was and how it kept bringing so many people to tears and that even if you don't like historical fiction you will love this book! So I decided to give it a try and I LOVED it. I think it should be required that everyone read this book, that's how good it was! This was the book that got me into historical fiction.

This novel reads like watching a television show, which seems to fit the authors intent. Not my favorite type of fiction, but quite good for what it is. The ambiguous nature of the ending was the best part. (0 more)

"Exhilarating science fiction, which is a wild thing for me to say because I am way too dumb to understand most science fiction. I love it so much and blew through it, which is also bananas because I can hardly read!"

Historical fiction well written and easy to read, with just an added touch of romance

I need more books for my TBR list. Sci-fi, crime and dystopian fiction preferred!

For a unique fantasy I have enjoyed Steven Brust's Vlad Taltos novels so far. Ace of Skulls by Chris Wooding is a good sci fi fantasyish book. (Think Firefly/Serenity).

"My dad gave me the novel Letting Go by Philip Roth. Dad read very little fiction—only one book of fiction a year. He was a political scientist, and he read dozens and dozens of non-fiction, academic books every year. But he always became enthusiastic about his one, annual book of fiction, which he would then recommend to everyone. He loved Roth. I like the novel, because it is Roth’s second—and unfamous—book; the writing shows his earnestness. He was looking for his voice then. I love the early novels of writers, for that same reason."
