Erika (17788 KP) rated Mortal Kombat (2021) in Movies

You know when you watch a movie, and you're completely entertained during it, but afterwards, all you remember is the action portions, and none of the plot? That's me right now, after watching this movie just a little less than three hours ago.
I'll get this out of the way, the plot was obviously forgettable. Now, if this was a dramatic film, this would be a huge issue, but, this is a movie based on the first insanely violent video game ever produced. I was there for the fighting, and not the plot. The main focus was Cole, and sorry, but he was kind of a yawn until he got his stuff together.
Now, let's get into why I saw this movie. The action, the fighting, the gore. This earned its R-rating. The fighting choreography was great, and I loved that they used the some of the same moves from the video games. Also - the fact that some of the characters quipped with the closing fight messages was hilarious. The best placed one was 'Flawless Victory', after a kill.
Sub-Zero has always been one of my favorite characters, so I was glad he got the most screen time, out of the villain squad.. I have to say, as the movie was nearing the end, I was wondering when Scorpion would make his grand entrance. Finally, the pay dirt came at the very end, and yes, the 'Get Over Here' line did make an appearance.
They obviously left it open-ended for a sequel, which has been green-lit already. You can bet I'll be there on opening day for some big, dumb, gory fun.

Not as predictable as first thought
This book was good for what it was, a love story of two teenagers fighting for their lives. Although i truely loved the book and will most likely also see the movie, i cant help but to think that the book lacked something, i eagerly awaited something spectacular and it had me longing. Maybe more depth to the characters? Not sure. Either way, i believe im a hard critic and to give it an 8 rating is still an achievement.

An ok fighting film about the underdog on the rise. It's a well made and put together film with some good actors. However I have to say it hasn't got very good fight choreography!! Most of the fights are random brawls, cage fight style mixed disciplines....and don't last that long. There isn't a lot of build up to the fights either in terms of tension or training. Overall an ok watch but I thought Never back down was a similar plot film done much better.

The conclusion to the Sisters Grimm series finds Sabrina and Daphne leading the good guys in a fight to take out The Master once and for all. Can they succeed? The book is dark at times, but we are fighting a war here. Fans of the series will certainly enjoy seeing how it ends, although if you aren't familiar with the series, start at the beginning.

Don’t tell grandmom the babysitter’s dead! Halloween (2018) #Review
Forty years have passed since the night he came home and while Michael Myers has spent those decades incarcerated in a mental institution, Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) has occupied herself by becoming a doomsday prepper – only she’s been prepping for a doomsday she knows is coming. When Michael escapes a routine prison transfer, Laurie finds herself fighting not only for her life, but that of her daughter and granddaughter too.

Barry Newman (204 KP) rated Bloodsport (1988) in Movies
Mar 11, 2020
This early slice of Van Damme action is one seriously cheesy movie (you know you're in trouble when he's the best actor in the movie) containing some laughably bad moments (the kid trying to do the JCVD accent in a flashback scene to name one of many). Despite all that it's actually allot of fun and doesn't take itself that seriously, once the tournament and the fighting starts the action scenes are very entertaining with a memorably satisfying final showdown. Switch your brain off and enjoy.
