Auburn (57 KP) rated The Watcher of the Night Sky in Books
Apr 10, 2019
I don't think I have enough words to describe just how much I enjoyed this book. I choose to read it because the cover was gorgeous and the plot sounded different. Indeed a girl who wishes upon the stars and ends up with a bunch of men madly in love with her.
The plot was well written and kept you guessing as to what was going to happen. As this is only part one it left off on a massive cliff hanger. One that insures if you read the first part you will jump right into getting the second.
For fans of fantasy, romance, and quests.

Perfect? No. Fun? Yes

I absolutely love James Spader voicing Ultron. I wish they would bring him back somehow in another film. He does a great performance and I thought it would be startling as Spader has a very distinct voice. However, he takes the role and makes it his own.
The Bad: the beats are the same as the first Avengers film. There was really nothing new. Characters are introduced to be killed off with no real meaning to their death. Great lines and scenes but not consistent enough to give it a 10/10

This is the first book by this author that I've read and it definitely wont be the last. This book will keep you reading long into the night. This book can be read as a stand alone, I haven't read any other in this series but I'll definitely be going back to read them. The characters are really well written and you just end up falling in love with them as you read. This is an exciting book to read. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.

Emma (519 KP) rated Beautiful Creatures (Caster Chronicles, #1) in Books
Jun 3, 2019
I really enjpyed this book, i have been meaning to read it for some time. I watched the film first which I don't usually do but that inspired me to buy the book. I have given it eight stars because i enjoyed the storyline and the development of the characters, even down to the school bullies. I love the character of Macon Ravenwood as much as I loved Jeremy Irons playing the role of him in the movie. My only criticism would be that it is perhaps a bit too long and drawn out, especially as it is part of a series.
Kyera (8 KP) rated A Torch Against the Night (An Ember in the Ashes #2) in Books
Jan 31, 2018
Being a sequel, I can't say much without spoilers but a Torch Against the Night is just as good as its predecessor. We learn more about the djinn and even another world. I continue to be riveted and wish the third book was written already. I've grown to love Laia, Elias and Helene over the course of the two novels and feel for them during their trials/struggles. I was very surprised by some of the things that happened in the book, which was pleasing because that meant it wasn't formulaic and obvious. Highly recommended, but read the first novel in the sreies before you begin this one.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2196 KP) rated Free Fall (John Ceepak Mystery #8) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
A friend of Danny's is facing a restraining order at the same time that Ceepak's father comes to town to harass his ex-wife. All of this happens just as the first tourist season since Hurricane Sandy starts. Looks like Ceepak and Danny will be very busy. I absolutely love these characters, and this was another good chance to see what is happening with them. I did feel the book took a bit of time to get going, but once it did I couldn't put it down.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2196 KP) rated Dead and Berried (Gray Whale Inn Mystery, #2) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Bed and breakfast owner Natalie Barnes finds the dead body of her part time employee in a cranberry bog. While the police rule it a suicide, Natalie doesn't think so. Meanwhile, her ex-fiancee has come to try to win her back. I love these characters and the plot was good. My only complaint is that one possible motive for the murder was almost exactly the same as in the first in the series. And since this is second in the series, that is disappointing.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2196 KP) rated You Have the Right to Remain Puzzled (Puzzle Lady #8) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
The Puzzle Lady is back and dealing with stolen chairs, charges of plagiarism, and being framed for murder. And to think she was complaining about being bored. I was impressed with how everything was tied together in the end. My only real complaint here was that the witty banter between characters I normally love had too much of an angry tent to it for the first half of the book. Still, there were plenty of laughs. Now, if only Dennis would die soon I'd really be happy.
