GRATIFICATION IN GLUTTONY is the second book in the Passing Through Cafe series and features Jude and Toni.
While I loved the first book, I only enjoyed this one. And by that, I mean it's still very good, but it didn't tick all the boxes like the first one did. I think part of the problem might be that I've read this story already, so reading it from their perspectives, while good at times, means I already know most of it.
I also didn't connect with either Jude or Toni in the way I wanted to, although I thought parts of both of their stories were wonderful. Jude flows hot and cold most of the time, and Toni's 'quirk' of referring to himself in the third person quickly became annoying. There are good moments, both of them are more self-aware than are given credit for, but still...
What I did enjoy were seeing parts of the story that I hadn't seen in Oliver and Liel's story, as well as parts of Rusty and Gem's, although I don't have their book to read. I think some people will love it, but it just didn't work for me.

MARKED is the first book in a spin-off series called Populations Crumble: Resurgence. I haven't read the first series but now I really want to. Not because something is missing from this book - oh, no. I want to read that because this one was SO good!
Demy is a likeable character from the start, running from danger, looking for safety. She joins the program not really knowing what she's doing, just hoping she will be safe. What she gets is so much more than she expected.
I loved this world. Okay, there are parts of it that aren't so good, but on the whole, I was taken with Demy and saw what she saw. There is lots of action and it's also very emotional. The choice Demy has to make is incredibly tough. I know which way I'd go, as it stands right now, but I'm hedging my bets because I have no idea which way this story is going to go. And I love that!
The cliffhanger is a killer and I honestly can't wait to see what happens next. An incredible story with amazing characters that I have no hesitation in HIGHLY RECOMMENDING.

A Friend in Death
Emma Westlake has been talked into trying a new business as a paid companion for those who might need one. One of her first clients is Brian Hill, a local writer and conspiracy theorist. He wants Emma to be his cheering section at a local open mike night. When he dies not too long after starting his poem, Emma realizes he comments about there being people in the audience who wanted to kill him weren’t jokes. Feeling a sense of loyalty to Brian, Emma tries to figure out what happened to him. Can she do it?
As the first in a new series, this book has to balance setting up the premise of the series with giving us a good mystery. It does a good job of doing just that, and I was engaged the entire time. Naturally, the plot gets stronger the further we go into the book until we reach the logical climax. I did find one of the characters a little overbearing, but that was my only complaint. On the whole, I am already falling in love with the characters in the book, and it made me reflect on the friendships I have in my life. I also enjoyed the humor throughout the book. I laughed several times along the way. A new series from Laura Bradford is always reasons to rejoice, and this book proves why once again.

THE SECRETS OF JANE is the first book in The Improper Bastards series and, if you're a fan of #Dark #Fantasy #Romance, then this is just the book for you.
Both the FMC and MMC are what you might call morally grey! Jane is certainly one to attack first and think later. Soren is more the one with the plan. That is, unless you touch something (or someone!) that belongs to him, and then all bets are off.
I loved Jane's history here and, whilst I don't fully understand the fuss, I'm looking forward to reading the next book to get the answers to my oh-so-many questions. The thing is, even with questions, I still enjoyed every single moment.
Not only do the supporting characters do their jobs incredibly well, but I'm also invested in them too. I'd Bones and Kathleen to have their story told. Anya, too. And Tempest. And… you get the idea. This is a world I'd love to return to and see just where the author takes me.
With an ending that will definitely leave you wanting more, I have no hesitation in HIGHLY recommending this book, and I can't wait until early 2024 to read the sequel!

DRAGONSEER is the second book in the Dragonkin series and is told from Harlen's perspective. The first book was told from Kirby's and the last from Cai's. This makes for a fantastic all-round read, giving extra oomph and depth to an already amazing story. You do need to have read Dragonrider to understand this one, as it follows straight after the events of the first book.
This book is full of action (not all of it between the sheets), intrigue, and revelations. I loved every word! Cai and Harlen have their world rocked to its very foundations - and not by Kirby this time! Plus, fate has decided to put all its players into motion, which gives you an action-packed, fast-paced, incredible story of three men, their dragons, and the love they have for each other.
I loved hearing this story Harlen and think it was just as good as Kirby's. Now, I'm (im)patiently waiting for DragonKing, which will be told from Cai's perspective and possibly bring the arc to a close. I honestly can't wait.
One of the best Dragon series I've read for a while! HIGHLY recommended by me.

Plus, fate has decided to put all its players into motion, which gives you an action-packed, fast-paced, incredible story of three men, their dragons, and the love they have for each other.

LANTERN is the first book in the Danubian series, and we head to the future where we have gone back to the Dark Ages.
Wren has always known he would leave the Monastery and his lovers behind at some point, but when that time comes, he finds it harder than expected. Not only that, but the solitude of being high in the mountains with only a dog for company, is more than he can bear. Luckily for him, Uli comes along and it's a healthy dose of insta-love for both of them.
There is a lot of world-building and explanations of the spiritual side in this book, as you would expect from the first book in a series. I was enthralled by the descriptions of how life was, but would have liked more about Wren interacting with the villagers and trying to adjust to his new way of life, rather than his constant lamentations about being lonely. I would also have liked more descriptions of Ev and Soren and their relationship with Uli.
On the whole, though, this was a great read that I thoroughly enjoyed and can't wait to read the next in the series. Definitely recommended by me.

I’ve been anxious to get to this book since it first came out. I just had to get to the author’s books that come before this one first. This one does have some serious spoilers for an early Mickey Haller book. I was hooked from the beginning, and the pace never let up. However, I did find Mickey’s opponents a bit weaker than they could have been, constantly doing the dumbest thing possible. I’m also tired of the yo-yo with all of the author’s characters’ love lives. Much of the book takes place in early 2020, and the coming pandemic adds to the intensity as the story goes along. However, the political comments felt out of place to me. Overall, I enjoyed this book, and I’m glad I have finally reached it.

The action starts from the very first page when Anna nearly comes to a sticky end with a lorry, laying in the hospital her next of kin (according to her passport, that she hadn't changed) Nick, her ex husband comes strolling back into her life, it's a love hate relationship and Anna hasn't seen him in 5 years.
This book made me want to bang their heads together, they're always bitching and snipping at each other. Always trying to get one over on the other and whatever Anna seems to do trouble always follows
"I'm not exactly predisposed to granting you any favours right now, Anna. I can't believe some of the situations you get yourself into. Jesus, what are you? A gravitational force for trouble!"
It's infuriating, and I just wished they'd shut up and get on with it. Saying that, I did enjoy it, I thought it was well written and I would read other titles by this author.

A Triumph for Women Everywhere (and the DCEU)
Gal Gadot is perfect. She kicks ass and looks great doing it, dominating every frame she inhabits. Thanks to Patty Jenkin's guiding hand, Gadot's iteration of Wonder Woman does so without becoming yet another one-dimensional sex symbol. The movie itself is the most cohesive and fun segment the DCEU has offered yet. Free of the glowering and overbearing lens Zack Snyder has placed over Superman and Batman, Wonder Woman touches on themes of hope and discovered humanity that were yet to be seen in DC's fledgling movie universe. Even if the story is a little basic, and a little reminiscent of Captain America: The First Avenger, it stands on its own two feet and puts up a good fight for two hours and twenty minutes.

This was without a doubt a much different book than what I am used to reading. That is not a bad thing at all. This book tells the story of how 3 lives that seemed so separate suddenly crash together in very unexpected ways. The first is Polly a young girl with the weight of the world on her shoulders. She is a worker & protector within her small, dysfunctional family. The next is Sister Charity. A young Shaker girl who holds a high esteem within her community until circumstances change & that changes in an instant. The last is Simon Pryor. A man who was forced into a position because he had tried to help out.
One quote stands out to me as a good summary of the story as a whole. Urquhart wrote, "But this, this love lifted from the ashes, abused, abandoned, afraid, misread, discarded, half-dead - like those who enter into it, it is broken. Yet beautiful, so very beautiful."
