Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2425 KP) rated Lady Darling Inquires After a Killer in Books
Oct 10, 2025 (Updated Oct 10, 2025)
Having enjoyed some other books this author has written, I was looking forward to this one. I felt the book was over written, which is often the case with the author, but it was a bit more than some of her others. The story took a little time to get going, but once it did, I enjoyed it and was along until we reached the logical end, although it did feel like there was a leap or two. Lady Darling is lots of fun and I did enjoy getting to know the rest of the cast. My biggest issue was something in Lady Darling’s backstory. I can understand the justification for it, but it still didn’t sit right with me. Plenty of people are enjoying this book, so if the time and place appeal, give it a chance and see what you think for yourself.

Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated Blood Lust in Books
Jan 7, 2021
I wasn't so sure on the style of this. I know it was two gangs going against each other and they use different terms than other people but I wasn't exactly a fan of it.
The first 25-30% was a little off-putting, reading about what her boss had her doing and did to her, but then when she met Jace it perked up a bit. I liked him almost instantly, maybe because of my like of vampires, and I was sad that he didn't get as much book-time as he could have.
Nexess annoyed me a bit, mainly because of her loyalty to her boss after everything he makes her do. When she's not near him, she realises what's happening, but as soon as he comes back, she's fawning all over him again! She drove me a little insane.
Short and gritty.

Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated The 5th Wave: Book 1 in Books
Sep 5, 2019
But I have this thing where if I have the paperback and the movie version is coming out soon that I have to read it first. This is probably something I'd enjoy more as a film than simply reading about because the continual changing of viewpoints without being told whose viewpoint it was got annoying after a while. The first time was a real head spinner since you had no warning but further on when it starts going between three or four people and you have to read so far in to figure it out...nightmare!
One thing I will say for the author though, is that he can write some really good action/fight scenes.
This really wasn't my sort of read but if you like alien invasions, then this'll be right up your street.

Merissa (13319 KP) rated Pass (Shattered Pawns #1) in Books
May 21, 2021 (Updated Jul 26, 2023)
Right then, onto Pass. I thoroughly enjoyed it! I adored seeing old favourites and learning how they are getting on. And meeting new ones for the first time - I looking at you, Anni! The story is compelling and moves along at a fair pace, keeping the reader's attention from the first word to the very last. So why only 4-stars, I hear you ask. Let me tell you.
Tio - Auggie - Luca
Although the scenes with them were incredibly well written, I just didn't connect with them. Auggie was probably the closest I got. Tio drove me insane 99.9% of the time, and Luca just accepted EVERYTHING! I mean, really? I know I'm going to be in the minority with this, but it is my opinion.
On the whole, though, this was a brilliant story. I want more from Qis and Monet, plus Anni and Charon. I honestly can't wait to see where Ms Cody will take me next. Just because I didn't connect with these characters doesn't mean I don't want more - from either the series or the author!
4-stars is still a 'very good' rating so I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this book but, once again, I would recommend you read the previous trilogy first.
