Deadly First Day on Set
Costumer Joey Jessop is happy to be working on the latest big budget superhero movie. However, the first day gets off to a rocky start with the director showing how horrible he can be, an electrical accident, and then a murder. Joey is the person to find the victim, the second assistant director, who just happens to be dating Joey’s ex. With Joey a person of interest, can she figure out what really happened?
Since I love the entertainment industry, this book immediately caught my attention. We get behind the scenes information, sometimes a bit too much, but I did love the Southern California and entertainment settings overall. The plot needed more focus, with the story being driven more by events than Joey’s investigation, which lead us to a climax that was weak on one hand and suspenseful on the other. Several aspects of the plot don’t really get resolved. There is a strong Me Too storyline, and I appreciated that it focused on Joey and her response to it all. Joey and several of main characters came to life for me, and I did like spending time with them. In the end, this one was a mixed bag for me.

Chloe (3 KP) rated Wonder Woman (2017) in Movies

I went to the cinema to watch this and was actually pleasantly pleased as a person who does not tend to watch many DC films this one actually blew me away. This is the first lead female superhero and although it reminded me a bit to much of Captain America it did not matter to much. It was very very well acted and amazing graphics. Also the actual full scale battle itself was not to short or to long like they tend to be in other superhero films. I am thoroughly looking forward to any other films that has wonderwoman in it.

Turing Hopper is the first sentient Artificial Intelligence Personality. The only person who knows the truth is her creator, but when he goes missing, Turing does what she can to track him down, pulling in two additional humans to be her legs.
The creativity in this book is wonderful. Turing is such a human character you can't help but love her, and the author makes great use of the characters to tell an unique story. Definitely worth tracking down.

Ross (3284 KP) rated Monopoly in Tabletop Games

The best way to ruin friendships
The classic monopoly game really brings out the worst in people, as the need to keep giving the same person money repeatedly becomes very frustrating. When playing with kids, I have found we have to agree that once someone has bought the first property of a group, nobody can buy the rest. Without such rules anarchy would reign.
The game takes quite a long time to play and technically only ends when someone runs out of money and properties completely, which can take days.
Not really enjoyable but an excellent concept (the junior version is much better).

Don't judge a book by it's cover is something I've been told since I was little. It's something I still do and this story showed me how that bleeds into judging people and why first impressions are important we most certainly should never judge a person based on our assumptions. I enjoyed reading this book the story was slightly frustrating in parts but I simply think the author was just trying to emphasize the conflict so that the light of why we shouldn't judge would be brighter. I also loved the poetry along the way one of my favorite parts of the chapters.
Donna (1 KP) rated Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) in Movies
Jul 1, 2018 (Updated Jul 1, 2018)
I loved the film, the storyline was good, it just didn't wow me like the first one did. It seemed to me that it was trying to hard to beat Jurassic World. Bryce Dallas Howard, excels herself in it, but she is maybe not the beat person for it. It felt like she was trying to hard to keep up with Chris Pratt & everyone else.
I hope they do a 3rd and final one, and don't be money grabbing idiots and try and drain it. It would be nice to see how Blue ended up.

A pinnacle of absurd 80's horror
The original Child's Play is a hugely enjoyable slice of 80s horror. It's so silly, that it easy to see how the movie, and it's villain Chucky, have earned their place amongst horror royalty.
The low budget is stepped around pretty effectively, with lots of first person shots from Chucky's perspective, building up to the inevitable reveal, where we properly see Chucky in all his glory, swearing and stabbing his way through the rest of the movie.
It's over the top, silly, violent, and the acting throughout is pretty hammy, but it all works pretty well.
