Surpisingly Good
Ever since he uttered the immortal line "We Are Sparta" as King Leonidas in the 2006 surprise hit 300, Gerard Butler has filled the screen with unadulterated machismo and virility. So I was expecting just more of the same when I went to check out the submarine flick HUNTER KILLER, figuring it was just a "B" action flick with Butler throwing up macho line after macho line and punching anyone who was in his way.
But...HUNTER KILLER is, surprisingly, much, much more.
Telling the story of a "Hunter Killer" submarine under a new captain that must go into enemy territory to check out the sinking of another American submarine, this adept action-thriller by South African Director Donovan Marsh is a pleasant surprise for only 1/2 of the film is about the action aboard the submarine, or the action back at HQ where a screaming Gary Oldman insists on less diplomacy and more aggressive action. The other part of the film is a very gripping, tense and exciting "behind enemy lines" war flick following the exploits of 4 Special Ops members (led by Toby Stephens) who must grab a person and then unite with the submarine.
Color me shocked by this. While Butler and Oldman gave me exactly what I wanted, the Special Ops soldiers, the stakes and the action sequences are a notch above your every day effort. If you are looking for a fun action flick, that can easily pass a few hours on a rainy and cold Saturday afternoon, you could do much, much worse than this one.
Letter Grade: B+

A really good stalker/slasher film, which is rare these days...
Another case of no expectations creating amazing results. Went into this one expecting another B movie with the same old tropes that would be decent, but nothing memorable. So happy to say I was very pleasantly surprised. The movie takes all the normal tropes and scares of the usual stalker/slasher flick but put twists and turns throughout. The mix of the stalker and the horror fest worked so beautifully. From start to finish, you were kept on the tense edge with much-welcomed surprises. You expected one thing and got another. Haven't seen a slasher flick this smart in a while. The ending is the perfect bow on the gift of this film. Would highly recommend to any horror fans, even with the waste of a Tony Todd performance.

Life is a solid and enjoyable sci-fi flick. It's certainly not going to be a classic that will be remembered in years to come but it's definitely entertaining. The visuals are strong - both for the look of space and the realisation of Calvin the alien.

Weird

This movie was what I expected... weird. The song and cinematography were good. The story, however was a strange crazed scientist/baron using human body fluids to stay alive until he can continue his bloodline(purely?)through his daughter. Anyway, it had plenty of creep factor and decent effects(nothing too high end but good). Ok horror flick for a boring rainy day. Worth a watch.

Overlord was a really awesome flick. I love that they never gave too much away in all of the previews, which helped build the excitement going into it. That excitement never dies out as it's a thrill ride from the opening scene to the last. The special effects were great with some cool shots, and one of the jump scares may have got me, haha.

I will be the first to admit that I'm not a huge transformers fan. However, my friend really wanted to see it and so I ended up seeing it through. I'll admit that I liked it more than I thought I would but I find this is due to the fact that this movie did not follow the typical layout for a transformers movie. Rather I found it to be more in the spirit of teenhood flick than an action packed movie about robots from outer space. I found bumblebee
to be humorous, fun loving character as he learned the basics of earth and his female friend to be... well more whimsical than the usual strong, overly sexualized female lead the transformers movies often portray. It was a nice change, the whole film was very different, not what I was expecting at all. Whether this is a good thing or not has yet to be decided though as I wait to watch whether the transformers movies are going to continue and what will be released next. However, if you've come looking for an Action flick to watch then I would suggest something else because you will find nothing more than a whimsical teen flick here, all about building friendships between alien races, much like E.T.

Comic to movie
A demon that is brought to life and then rescued from one the groups we love to hate (the Nazis) then trained with other mystical creatures to come fight the forces of darkness. Yeah it was good. It followed the comic pretty well as far as I can tell. Filled with action and good story line. Hellboy is a fun flick to watch if you like comics.
