"I recently picked up Jean Vigo's dreamy 1934 story of a honeymoon couple heading to Paris on a barge. It's still startling and would have been way out on its own in 1934. Also included on the Artificial Eye DVD is his earlier short Zéro de conduite which was banned for years in France. An anarchic tale of kids taking over a boarding school. You can see how much Truffaut picked up from here and it was a direct influence on the 60s Lindsay Anderson film If. Vigo died young and L'Atalante was his only complete feature."

"A miracle of discontinuity and absurd tomfoolery, but with the help of a fantastic music track and a great measure of talent from everyone connected—including the costume designer—it took off and never touched ground again. I first saw it in France, with no subtitles, and thought it was a wonderful story. When I saw it later with subtitles, I realized I’d gotten it all wrong. It was a completely different story. But it turned out not to matter. It’s simply a wild film ride. And the joke for me was that I thought I understood French."

Milo and Rosabella have moved to France to a gorgeous mansion. Rosabella feels like she's been here before and it's not long before the mansion starts showing her it's history.

An utterly captivating story it really does seem to pull you into it. I enjoyed the style of writing but I will be honest and say with the internal battles I got a bit confused between Ro/Jo a couple of times.
The description of the mansion and its grounds aswell as the town simply breathtaking.
I did not expect the ending at all absolutly fantastic

4/5 truly captivating

This book was almost like two books in one. One being everything associated with the food in France and the other being all of Mah's tangents that could almost be described as a coming-of-age story. To defend this, one could say that without the sauce, the meat will seem too dry. On the other hand, without a good enough sized portion of meat, the extra sauce will just end up being a congealing puddle on your plate. Beauty and the beast is a live action adaptation of the 1991 Disney classic of the same name.

Set in the cockney part of France where everyone speaks English, the tale as old as time follows a young village girl who is desperately trying to avoiding marrying the wrong guy and uses this as an excuse to seek her missing father who's been imprisoned by a beast who technically doesn't exist...

A tale about speed dating wth a twist, this is a beautiful story of personal growth & acceptance.
