Daughters of War is set during the Nazi occupation of France and tells the story of three sisters: Hélène, Elise and Florence.

Hélène, the eldest, is a nurse and does her best to protect her two younger sisters, although Elise is determined to play her part in the Resistance. Florence is happy to hide away in their cottage, longing for the day that France will be free again.

I loved the relationships between the sisters - they’re all sp different from one another - and they pull together in times of need and danger.

And there’s plenty of danger here, both in their village and in the places that Hélène and Elise must go to as their roles in the Resistance dictate.

And the secret they uncover about Florence is pretty shocking and totally unexpected for the sisters.

This was a really enjoyable read on The Pigeonhole. There’s a great mix of emotion, adrenaline and danger. This is the first book in a planned trilogy, and I’m really looking forward to seeing where the sisters go next in the next two books.

Many thanks to The Pigeonhole and the publisher for serialising this book - I loved it.

Dr. Fell and the Playground of Doom

At first the new playground Dr Fell builds in the neighborhood seems innocuous enough. As more and more kids come to play, however, Jerry, Nancy, and Gail realize that it is anything but, and it’s up to the 3 of them to figure out what is going on, and to stop whatever it is that their new neighbor is up to. Ahh, such a nice man is Dr. Fell.

What a smart, macabre story! The protagonists are a group of clever grade school kids, but not so clever as to seem unrealistic. Dr. Fell himself felt to me like a character from an Edward Gorey illustration inserted into a Goosebumps book. Evil or not, I loved him and his old-fashioned, over-the-top form of speech. While the book is aimed at kids around my daughters’ ages, I really enjoyed it myself! I hope we’ll be seeing lots more from David Neilsen.

Finally! On a console!
It may have taken a while, but we finally have game boy style Pokemon game on a console! At last, shouting it at my handheld has finally paid off!
And the results... pretty good.
It's nothing new, you are a youngster, allowed to leave home to hunt your Pokemon companions.
Unlike the other games, you gain XP for your Pokemon through trainer battling and catching wild Pokemon, weakening them to catch has been eliminated and the motion controls have been engaged to enhance the catching experience.
There is the posh pokewalk controls, which are not realy worth the money, though if you are realy after the full experience it may be a must.
It seems to be glitch free, cute, fun, and best of all, I CAN RIDE MY CHARIZARD!!!!! You have to get down every time there is a slight obstruction, but dam it's fun.
It does also link with the Pokemon Go phone app, though I have not got this far in the game yet, but I look forward to it.
Fun for kids, and a nice throwback to Pokemon Yellow for the old fans, it's well worth a play, I just hope things "evolve" (sorry) ready for the next instalment.
