This is such a difficult question. I've had the same few close friends for years and I don't remember how I first became friends with them (except for one I've known for 28 years...)
I suppose you have to get out there and meet people, either at work or some form of club or shared hobby, and take it from there. I don't suppose it's something that comes easy.
Not a helpful answer I know!
