To think this is a true story...... wow!
I can't believe this is a real story, kinda makes me want to do it with my buddies. We were in the mood for a film like this so we laughed quite often but I think they were quite cheap gags, that were really over the top.

The characters fit well together and I could believe that they probably wouldn't be friends without the game. However, they were supposed to have a good friendship and I'm not sure that was really invoked till right at the end. I think there could have been more work on remembering the good times as they visited lots of places from their teen years.

When I was first introduced to the reporter I thought, oh so you've tried to appeal to a female audience too by adding in a character to explain the plot but actually I think this highlights the true story aspect.

I can't believe some of the subjects that are dealt with. By the end of it you are second guessing everything as no plot is too big for these guys, just to tag one another.

Would recommend if you are fancying a funny, silly light-hearted films.

I used to watch the original To Tell the Truth; the old one in black & white, late at night on the Game Show Network, and loved it. It was charming, classy, intriguing, delightful, and funny. So I was excited when the modern iteration of the game show came out. I'm not a huge fan of the host but he's tolerable. What I don't like is his mother, Doris. She makes disgusting sexual comments that are highly inappropriate to the male contestants. Comments that would not be tolerated if a man were making them toward a woman. The men are visually uncomfortable with her remarks but they play it off like it's a funny joke, but it isn't. I'm appalled that that level of sexism is allowed on television in the post #metoo movement world. I would have thought that people realized that you can't treat people like a piece of meat but apparently Doris did not get that message. She needs to go! Boot her off the show!

Other than her, they have people with interesting secrets and truths to tell on the show and it's fun to try to guess which one of the contestants is the one with the secret. It's a shame that Doris has to spoil an otherwise entertaining show.

Ironically, not even that much better while high. I liked this for the majority of the runtime but that third act really tried my patience - falls into the exact line as other late 90s/early 00s buddy comedies in vein of 𝘋𝘶𝘥𝘦, 𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦'𝘴 𝘔𝘺 𝘊𝘢𝘳? and the like that I just fucking hate, where the film completely gives up and a bunch of tiring 'wacky' stuff happens until it abruptly ends. Pretty typical hit-or-miss stoner comedy of the era but easy to forgive when the thing isn't even 85 minutes in length. It's agreeable enough with some seriously funny shit in it every now and again, mostly only holding its own in the sea of other similar movies due to its trio of three sharp, exuberant lead performances - Jim Breuer's final boss tie-dyed pothead steals the show with extreme prejudice (seriously, has anyone else in a movie ever exuded *more* stoner energy than this guy?). Can be lumped right in with 𝘔𝘪𝘴𝘴 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩 in the "kind of funny, semi-decent films written by people who are clearly above such work but also maybe that was the point of it to begin with?" pile. But Bob Saget's "I used to suck dick for coke!" bit remains as iconic and effortlessly hysterical as ever.

"This is a weird one. That was in my parent's record collection. They had a few records, but that was one that we would listen to a lot as kids. It's very appealing to children. It's kind of like a musical Monty Python, but a lot better in my opinion! They had this really stupid, silly, strange music that was a lot better than it should have been. You often get that when a comedian makes music, you can sort of tell that actually the music underneath is really good. Lots of their humour is derived from the fact that the music is played really badly, and it was sort of shit and sort of funny! That source of amusement has followed me my whole life. I'm much happier trawling YouTube for awful music than I am looking for the hottest new good band. I almost spend more time listening to awful music. Not just because I find it funny but because I find things in it that a professional would never think of, and that is sometimes all you want to hear, something that you've never heard before. I think a lot of humour is relayed in my music directly from the Bonzos."

I remember trying to watch this about 11 or so years ago, and turning it off after about an hour because of how middling it was - suffice to say my thoughts haven't really changed. Can't even begin to fathom what people think this has over 𝘋𝘶𝘮𝘣 & 𝘋𝘶𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳. I admit there's a pretty terrific analog in here about all these deplorable, delusional men coming together in their shittiness while trying to fool this poor woman into loving them with increasingly ludicrous schemes - but it isn't funny enough to justify waiting until the last act to realize that, especially with this crawling runtime. Let me clarify: Ben Stiller beating up the coked-out dog was *hysterical*, and it does have a handful of other notably funny moments but they're spread thin. The title character is given absolutely nothing to work with besides Diaz's capable talent despite having "something about" her, but I think that inadvertently works given how she's effectively a nonentity template for these guys to project their naïve sociopathic fantasies onto. Sure as hell won't knock the cast though, they're all game playing a troupe of model Farrelly goofballs. Honestly there are just... better comedies out there, dudes - even by these guys.
