You will cry
"If you don't cry, then you are a psychopath" is what my girlfriend said to me before starting the film.
I don't think Emilia Clarke actually acted in this film, I think we see how funny and quirky she is in real life.
As with most British films we have plenty of humour, some drama and some sad bits and this film delivered on them all.
It is a great film, very well acted and shot in some stunning places.
I am not ashamed to say that I did cry at the end and challenge anyone to say they didn't after watching it.

Slightly atypical Laurel and Hardy short, presumably because it's a remake of a silent non-L&H film. This explains why Stan and Ollie play successful businessmen looking to get into politics rather than the usual perennially useless goons, why it feels more like a farce than usual, and why the boys spend a lot of the film apart.
That said, there are some quite good bits: Ollie's glances to the camera are first class, and there are some epic double-takes from Jimmy Finlayson as Ollie's butler. It is undeniably funny, but you do get a sense of a film not quite making best use of its strongest assets.

Something a bit different!
A real laugh out loud read! One of those "it's funny because it's true!"
I think that most mum's can relate to most of this book and can appreciate the sarcasm and fun behind the main character.
Would recommend for any parent or soon to be parent, I don't have children but I still found this highly amusing and relatable!
Warning - do not read or listen to when you are in public by yourself and you will look like a crazy person when you randomly burst into fits of laugher! Also don't recommend reading while drinking tea... unless you want it to come out of your nose!

ClareR (5806 KP) rated This is Going to Hurt: Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor in Books

Finding humour in difficult times
This is a book that tells it like it is: the long hours, no sleep, the volume of work, the responsibility, the gory, gruesome bits, the humour, the sadness and the stress. We take for granted that the NHS and our doctors will always be there, but after reading this book, I find myself with even more respect for the doctors and nurses in our hospitals, and the care they give us even when they’re tired and stressed.
This is very funny though, and I think a lot of humour is probably used by doctors - whatever gets them through their long shifts!

Marvel strikes again!
Contains spoilers, click to show
Don't get me wrong, I am not the biggest Marvel fan in the family (step forward, my daughter), but I really enjoyed this story, which was strong and involving. Usual great action scenes and funny bits to keep you entertained, I am seriously considering a DVD purchase when the time comes. Only gripe is the excellent soundtrack does not seem to be available with all the great 90s tracks - and the orchestral soundtrack is only on MP3? How am I meant to play that in the car??

Over complicated plot
Ryan Reynolds saves the film by being Ryan Reynolds
As a film adaption it is really good, however the plot is overcomplicated for kids. The other actors are not brilliant, Ryan Reynolds saves the day by simply being Ryan Reynolds. He's funny and quirky, his voice is perfect for the role.
The film felt longer than what it is which is not good. An hour in I thought it must be over but sadly not.
However, the references and the visual effects were amazing and worthy of a 7 star review.

Movie Metropolis (309 KP) rated Bruce Almighty (2003) in Movies
Jun 10, 2019
Jim Carrey was on a winning streak in the late 90s and early 00s with films like Liar Liar, Me, Myself & Irene and of course Ace Ventura. However, perhaps my favourite of his works is Bruce Almighty. This genuinely funny comedy about a man who ends up being God was well received by critics and box-office dynamite.
Aniston plays Carrey’s wife, dealing with the strange goings on in their marriage and putting her husband straight in only a way Aniston can. It’s a classic of its time and repeat viewings only highlight how dreadful its successor, Evan Almighty actually was.

Some unique (Netflix Originals) programming, some classic TV shows and movies too. (2 more)
'My List' allows you to save shows and films to watch at a later stage.
Netflix are open to people sharing their accounts with others (within reason)
User interface is poor and sometimes you spend more time trying to find something to watch than you do actually watching something. (2 more)
A lot of the stand-up comedy is aimed at the USA audience which needs to be addressed as quite frankly the majority of them are just not funny!
Not on the same level as Sky when it comes to blockbuster movies.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2277 KP) rated A Vicky Hill Exclusive! (Vicky Hill, #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Vicky Hill is trying to make a name for herself in journalism, but she's stuck in a small English village. Fortunately, she stumbles on a strange case involving a dead hedge jumper and chickens. Can she figure things out? The plot hooked me early and kept me going, which is a good thing considering how much I hated Vicky. She kept spinning wild theories that any sane person would dismiss. And her obsession with losing her virginity wasn't nearly as funny as it was supposed to be.

Sarah (7799 KP) rated When Harry Met Sally (1989) in Movies
Feb 15, 2018
My all time favourite rom-com
As rom-coms go, you really can't beat the classics. When Harry Met Sally is an absolute gem of a rom-com, and to date I still haven't see anything that can really compete.
There's chemistry between Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal and you really believe in their characters, who are endearing but not entirely faultless. It's very funny without being crude or ridiculous, and the romantic side is sweet and believable, without being too sickly and cheesy. Harry also delivers my favourite romantic line from any film, and for that alone I can't help but love this film.
