What to say about this? Not as polished as the first? Definitely not. Not as funny? No. However it's a good enough shot at the ever difficult sequel. The rock does a stand up job of being an old geezer. And the rest of the cast play their roles well however it just doesn't have the same... punch as the first (second) Jumanji film. It does show that, at the moment, the Rock can do very little wrong, apart from the horrendous San Andreas. But that's a different story.

Give this film a watch, knowing it's not as good but no where near as bad as it could have been

To say that I "liked" the story is probably not the best word to use, considering the story. I did like it, for lack of a better term at the moment. It's magical, morbid, sometimes funny, and it definitely makes you think. I enjoyed the originality of the story. I don't want to give any spoilers, but I will say that I wasn't sure what would happen for sure until the end. Night Theater was a short read, but definitely an interesting one. I wasn't sure that I'd like it at first, but there was no reason to put it down. I'm glad I happened to run across this book by chance.

Broodingly effective British horror movie is strikingly unlike anything else of its time - not much resemblance to a movie by Hammer, or Amicus, or AIP. Four people move into a haunted house for a week; their beliefs about the supernatural vary, but they are forced to agree there is something funny about the place...

Understated, almost pseudo-documentary atmosphere works in the film's favour; the actors also know to underplay it until the big histrionics are required. Unsettling soundtrack by radiophonic genii Delia Derbyshire and Brian Hodgson is a major plus. The script goes a bit nuts towards the end (don't think too hard about the plot) but the journey to get to this point is more than worthwhile.
