The latest (at the time of writing) in Bernard Cornwell's series of books about the making of England, and we're now a lifetime on from Alfred (the Great's) death, with Alfred himself being a key player in those earlier books.

However, Uhtred is still tied to Alfred's family by various oaths he has made over the years, with one such oath causing him to leave his (reclaimed) homeland of Northumbria, and in particular Bebbanburg, and travel south in an attempt to fulfil that oath.

With large portions of this novel set mainly in and around London (or Lundene), this felt to me somewhat like a bridging novel, setting up the future status quo and laying seeds from what is still to come (the unification of England)

My Thoughts: This is a truly entertaining novel. It's genuinely fun and engaging. The author has done a marvelous job of bringing the past and future together to make a charming and humorous storyline. The characters are well developed and easy to relate to. Claire is a down to earth young woman trying to make a living writing historical novels; just an average girl whose life is changed forever one night when she puts on her grandmother's shawl. This novel was hard to put down, the plot is fast-paced and keeps the reader entertained.

A historical novel is full of humor and suspense with many twists in the plot that will keep the reader wondering what will happen next. A truly enjoyable read and highly recommended.

Hugely derivative sci-fi action plodder. In a future world where all emotion has been outlawed and society has been retooled to include as many genre cliches as possible, Christian Bale is a fiercely calm enforcer of the general state of drugged-up indifference. Needless to say he begins to doubt the system.

Well, some bits are knocked off from Logan's Run, some from 1984, some from THX-1138, and most obviously of all there are some hugely blatant steals from The Matrix. Not one of Bale's finest performances. The film has a certain visual style to it, but the lack of originality, mixed with a good deal of silliness, bathos, and pretension, means it isn't even particularly enjoyable as a fun dumb action film.

The second in the Pucked series follows Miller (Buck) Butterson attempting and failing to win over his ice hockey team Captain’s (and future brother in law Alex) sister Sunny Waters. Buck and Sunny would be great together if only things and people would stop interfering!
Buck means well, but he certainly isn’t the smartest, and Sunny is young and sheltered, and everyone around her is over protective. But when the world finally gets a glimpse of the real Buck things start to change for the better!
This isn’t as funny as the first book, but still great writing! The character development is great too!
Follows on great from the first book but can also be read as a stand alone.
