I don't usually read fantasy or ghost stories, but how could I resist something from Nancy Bilyeau written just for this season? This one is sure to be a winner for lovers of this genre, and you can find out why through my review here. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2019/12/24/restoring-lost-loves/

The Chocolate Lady (94 KP) rated My Lover's Lover in Books

If Maggie O'Farrell's second novel "My Lover's Lover" is supposed to be her weakest work, then perhaps anyone interested in her work should start with this one, since it is far from weak in my eyes. You can read my full review here. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2014/11/08/an-ex-lover-ghost-story/

Zuky the BookBum (15 KP) rated The Signalman in Books

I've never read a Dicken's novel before, I always felt like I would come out of them dumbfounded... his writing seems too intellectual and educational for my little brain. But, this is just a ghost story, so it was easy enough to get on with!
Yes, I enjoyed this, but it wasn't my favourite short story. A classic old school ghost story, but it could have been so much creepier than it was, so that let me down. There is a slight pang of shock at the tail end of this short, but it's nothing to write home about.
What's most interesting, to me, about this book, is the fact that it's been pulled out of a personal tragedy of Dicken's.

A classic
I still love this story after countless readings and about as many reboots. Few are unfamiliar with the story, which lends itself well to contemporary retellings. But I enjoy revisiting the original now and then. It's a very quick read, and one of my favorite ghost stories and tales of redemption. If Scrooge can change, who can't?

Peter G. (247 KP) rated Ghost Dog - The Way of the Samurai (2000) in Movies

Whittaker is very good in this mash up of Japanese culture meets Italian mob movie, it gives the impression that it is deep and it can be as we see ghost dog steeped in the code of the Japanese samurai, however the performance doesn't match the script that appears threadbare at times...great performance mind you!
