Apparently (according to Google) the most expensive show ever made - with a price tag of £800m - this is something I had heard described as LOTR fan-fic.
Which I can kinda see.
The money is definitely all there on the screen, with wide sweeping shots that remind the viewer of the Peter Jackson films, but I do have to say I did find this to be a little bit on the slow side; only really picking up any sense of urgency on the home stretch at around about episode 6 (of 8).
And, yes, I know what some will say - Tolkien himself spent pages on pages describing countryside - but it doesn't really make for a gripping narrative.
Anyway, this is set centuries before the LoTR, taking its cues from The Silmarillion, and portrays a very different take on Galadriel than that shown by Cate Blanchett, alongside some old friends and (in particular) foes.
Whether it's worth a watch or not depends on your patience for the slow bits, and your interest in the world it inhabits. For me, it just about swung in favour.

<p style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #993300;"><strong>Once again, the characters were captivating for me. I loved Mark and Waneta both. Mark's character really tugged at me the most. I can't imagine the pain that he endured through life. The things he dealt with in life, you don't imagine being a part of an Amish novel, but it was and it really made it that much more gripping. Oh to be there! I would go in mama mode on him and hug him big! Waneta's character, well, she was a little too judgy at times, but seeing God work on her, really made me love her that much more.</strong></span>

It is not a sweet Amish romance, but it is a wonderful Amish novel in a series that will steal your heart, just the same. You will go through the roller coaster ride of ups and downs as you fall in love with each character, as you feel each characters emotions,as they seek forgiveness,and the pain that they go through of letting go of the past. Anything less than a 4.5 star review will not do this book justice.</strong></span>

This book drew me in from the first chapter. It was extremely mysterious and I could feel the suspense building up already. It was very hard to put this novel down.
The main character in this novel is Irini (love, love the name), a successful doctor with hip problems, which left her slightly limping. All her life she was running from her sister – Elle. Why? Because Elle is dangerous and unpredictable. I really loved the characters which were chosen for this book. I think they were very original, charismatic and supported each other very nicely. I really liked Irini and her life story, but it is very hard not to admire Elle, in some sort of weird way. Her character has charm, her personality is very strong, her actions, masterful manipulations because she is a psychopath. It was very interesting to read about this connection which Irini and Elle shared, they can’t be together but they need each other. You know it will destroy your life, but you still need it… All this was told while sharing Irini’s experiences from the past, which I found absolutely amusing and very intriguing to read.
The narrative of this novel is very gripping. Page after page, the author brought in a twist or unexpected turn, leaving me more and more interested in what will happen next. The whole plot was told from Irini’s perspective, and even though it was enough to make it an interesting read, I would have loved to read Elle’s perspective as well. I think it would have made this book even more interesting and would’ve answered more questions, and at least for me, it is always interesting to read what psychopaths think. Sometimes I got tired of this constant “Why did they give me away?” question. For me, in some places, it was quite repetitive and not always necessary.
The writing style of this novel is very creative and smartly thought through, leaving some cliffhangers, which are still bothering me a little. The chapters are a very decent length and it didn’t drag for me because the plot has sucked me in. I do not recommend it for young readers, as it contains some mild violence, drugs and alcohol. I am not fully satisfied with the ending of this book, even though it answered the main questions of this novel, it still has unresolved mysteries, which were left with hypothetical explanations.
So, to conclude, I would strongly recommend this dark and gripping thriller, filled with strange sisterly love, very strong and charismatic characters and very well thought through and intriguing plot, uncovering new secrets with every chapter. Enjoy

Harrowing and thought provoking
For anyone who's grown up watching films like Free Willy, or visited any of the Seaworld parks, this documentary is going to be a cruel but necessary eye opener.
For me, I've been to Seaworld in Florida numerous times when I was younger and have seen Tilikum in the flesh, and although this documentary pretty much ruins my childhood memories, I'm actually glad in a way that I'm no longer in the dark. It's a tough watch, but very informative with gripping video footage and interviews with ex Seaworld employees. It also really illustrates the whales temperaments and intellectual and emotional capacity, which just further pushes the point the documentary is trying to make. Yes as with most documentaries, its fairly one-sided. But that doesn't mean it's wrong.
Seaworld have called this documentary propaganda, but having visited Seaworld again just over a month ago (after having seen this), it's the nonsense they're showing at the parks that's the propaganda, not this. It can't have done any damage to the parks, as they were still full of people who were obviously ignorant to this documentary. I just wish they'd all watch this before being taken in by the propaganda pushed by the company.

A gripping Korean zombie film
I was excited to watch Train to Busan the moment I saw the trailer for it. I am a huge fan of horror and zombie films and this one looked different.
I was pretty into it as soon as I started to watch it, I was pulled in and couldn't take my eyes from the screen from the moment the characters first board the train.
There were little details here and there that I loved including the fact that one character has a brand new Nintendo Ds (I love Nintendo).
Most zombie movies bore me after a while and I don't care too much for the characters, but in Train to Busan I was rooting for several of them.
I also loved the fact they were on a train, that was ont of the reasons I wanted to watch this film, I wanted to see exactly how they were gonna survive in such a small space.
I highly recommend this film, give it a try even if you don't like the look of it and it might surprise you.

Very Enjoyable
Having a massive video gaming background, I'm finding it strange that I never really bothered with Halo. I'm beginning to wonder why that is... It's an interesting world to say the least. My Dad let me borrow this novel after he read it because he knows I love my sci-fi. If I'm honest I was a little skeptical about it, having never actually played Halo I was worried it wouldn't make much sense, but it was quite good, it wasn't bogged down with too much information, yet still explained things so that someone who hasn't ever played Halo could still enjoy the novel. I liked the characters and all their differences from each other. Some interactions between characters were particularly amusing at times. If I had one negative thing to say about this one was the ending was a tad predictable. I knew how it was going to go from around the end of chapter ten. Other than that it was an interesting read with a few gripping moments that had me walking around with my nose in the book :) You like sci-fi and aliens? Pick this one up, it's not overly taxing to weave your way through the Halo world, and it's enjoyable too.

Strange Psychological Thriller
This movie is dry but gripping. You start off the movie with a young business executive (Lockhart played by Dane DeHaan) being whisked away on a train heading through scenic Swiss countryside. He has been charged with the task of returning a top level CEO (Pembroke played by Harry Groener) who has to return to New York to broker a merger. The movie from the get go does a lot of jumping around. One moment you are watching scenes from the past thinking it is part of the present, and then you realize that you catching memories. But when they come into play they really make no sense to what is happening on screen at that moment.
Its not a horrible movie, just kind of dry with a lot of jumping around from one moment to the next. At points in the movie you feel a bit confused, and with the twists and turns you begin to wonder if what is happening is a delusion or if it is some type of dream state.
All in all its a good movie if you have about 2hrs to dedicate to it. But if you love psychological thrillers, beautiful scenery's, and twisted plot lines, you are sure to love this movie.

A good, tense thriller of a film
A Quiet Place is a tame horror film where monsters roam the world and will attack anything that makes a noise. Why they do this is never explained, but that suits me fine. The film follows a family trying to survive in this world, who have learned to live in almost complete silence and live off the land. I was worried in the first few minutes that it was going to be almost complete silence, but thankfully it wasn't. An interesting twist was that one of the family's children is deaf so the family can already communicate in sign language.
There are moments of true edge of the seat suspense, when someone has accidentally made a noise and they just have to wait for the inevitable attack. And there are elements where we know something is going to happen and you are waiting for it (the nail for example).
One thing that bugged me is that these creatures can apparently hear a pin drop from miles away but can't hear breathe or a heartbeat from mere feet? Hmmm. Regardless, this was an interesting concept and, somewhat unlike Bird Box, was well delivered.
Well acted throughout.
