This one came from out of nowhere
never heard of Claire Fuller before or this book and actually got it in a secret santa at work. Well Santa knows me well because it was bloody fantastic. My poor kids were hungry because I found it hard to not pick it up when I came home from work and hard to put it down afterwards. This is a disturbing and gripping story that is so upsetting because its entirely believable.

I truly enjoyed this novel. It left me gripping for more and wanting to learn more of the New Hope Church, the sirens, the leaders of New Hope, etc. I recommend starting with The Social Affair, as reading in order will help you gain a better understanding of what the underlying story is about and will make all the gaps come together in the end.

"For when you need to see courage in action This is historical fiction about the occupation of France during World War II, and it’s hardly light reading. But it sure is gripping. It will transport you to another time and place so completely, you’ll feel like you lived it. And even though it’s maybe the last book I’d normally think of as vacation reading, it's a page-turning read about courage in action. Something we could all use right about now."

Darkly gripping and page turning
I do like the Ben Hope books especially the more ancient history ones but this one is good and a page turner as the excitement levels are kept up and so you want to see if they can finish their mission and save the girl or not. However, my only issue is the ending is built up against the bad guy and the conclusion kinda falls a little flat
