good start for a first time author
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.
I'm a bit in two minds about this book, and I can't figure out why but I'll try.
It's a Nice book. I know I hate using that word but it's the best I can come up with! It has drama, passion, love, hate, lots of different emotions with just enough of each to not be overpowering.
I will say this, only Harper has a say. In the first person AND present tense. And it took me til way past halfway to figure out it was present tense, so well done to Fox for making me NOT see something that might have made me dump it!
I did need to hear from Easton though. I think he would have had a lot to say, especially about what he's dealing with, with his sisters and his nutty ex.
And I found out after I'd read this, that this is a first time author! So very well done to Fox for this book, even if it wasn't quite my cuppa tea.
I enjoyed it, it didn't quite push any buttons for me, BUT! I would like to read the next one, just to see how Fox' skill is growing. And Easton's sister really could be an interesting character!

Something in Between is a timely novel that is so relevant to the political environment in our country today and a must read. Jasmine's life is turned upside down when she realizes that she and her family are in America, illegally. Her whole life she thought that they had green cards. She worked hard, was top in her class and ran herself ragged to be the best and to do everything from class president to cheer captain. It all seemed to pay off when she received a scholarship that would allow her to attend any college in the US, until her parents informed her that she wouldn't be able to accept. Couldn't accept, because she was an illegal immigrant.
Life turned upside down, Jasmine must figure out what to do and how to come to terms with her changed identity. Then Jas falls for the son of a politician who is spearheading the fights against undocumented workers. How will she reconcile her new self-identity in the world she lives in? Will she and her family be able to stay in America will they be forced to move back to the Philippines, a country her brothers have never known. And, will all of her hard work be for naught because she cannot find a way to attend college? Find out in this young adult/teen contemporary fiction novel about family, friends and growing up.

I really enjoyed the first story, Em's Story, better than the second story.
The first book was really heartwarming. I loved how much Em grew throughout the book and how she changed as a person. I was hoping she would and she did. The twist at the end was very unexpected and helped explain the story and tie up some lose ends. It really made the story. The chapter had me hooked and the book didn't go how I thought it would but that's what grabbed my attention and kept me reading.
There were a few spelling mistakes and missed words here and there but it didn't effect the the story or the way it read.
This book was romance but also about finding yourself and growing as a person.
The whole story made me smile throughout.
I felt this book was for any age group.
The most memorable part of the book was the description of Anna Island. I really could see it in my mind's eye. Sounded idyllic.
The second book didn't grab me as much and I felt myself getting a bit bored. It was so on and off and it didn't really add to the book or keep me gripped.
I didn't really feel the character or feel for them.
