Book Divas (227 KP) rated The Darkness in the Shadow: Haunted House (The Haunting of Briar Park Book 4) in Books

You are quickly consumed by this dark read and are left with goosebumps and an uncomfortable feeling. The evil that has resided at the Briar house continues to be malevolent as ever and the deaths are gore and gruesome. This is definitely the perfect read for horror lovers. I am thrilled that I read this and I recommend it.

Gruesome, grisly, Gothic horror
There is no true horror than the horror humans create themselves. The Picture of Dorian Gray is a classic tale of hubris and vanity, and the sins that associate themselves with such. Oscar Wilde's macabre style is fascinating for its time, and the idea that the painting is a representation of his Gray's own soul is intelligent.

Great
This movie turned out to be a great thriller. The characters were interesting and the song was good. The cinematography/effects were decent and not gruesome. The story tied together and lasted out well. The "trap" rooms are pretty creative too. The ending left it open for a sequel(like Hollywood loves to do anymore). Overall, really worth a watch.

A pretty decent horror film based on the short story by Clive Barker, which is a bit Stephen King like. It's very bloody and gruesome but the cgi effects make it less shocking. Overall a very simple idea for a film well executed but the cgi effects are over done and the story is a bit too straight forward most of the time.

This gripping and thrilling King adaptation became notorious for one of many gruesome scenes that gave rise to a new definition of the word Stalking.
It's quite Hitchcock like in its execution and the level of suspense is palpable and very dark, Bates chills to the bone as her character mutates from number 1 fan to absolute psycho. Edge of the seat viewing!

A very influential book that has in ways I didn't realize has made references and framed how I think of things before I ever read the book.
It is a heavy read and as you progress down the circles of hell the descriptions get more and more gruesome. I think everyone should read this at least once.

London, the summer of 1936, and things seemed to be changing at an alarming rate - not always for the better. One of the less pleasant things happening was the discovery of two women, strangled by the murderer they called the "Tie-Pin Killer" due to his gruesome skewering of their tongues. Loved the plot and overall idea of the movie (1 more)
Creepy without being tacky
Return to the psychological horror
Loved this movie, a return to the psychological horror rather than the cheap gruesome horror so often portrayed in recent horror-thriller movies. Fantastic cast and premise with enough humor to alleviate some of the stress. Personally the ending wasn't too bad but could have been explored a bit more in the film.
