Rutger Hauer recommended Apocalypse Now (1979) in Movies (curated)

Apocalypse Now (1979)
Apocalypse Now (1979)
1979 | Action, Drama, War

"Okay, last one — Apocalypse Now. That movie was so stunning and so ahead of its time. I don’t know, it’s probably a story like Blade Runner, because there are so many things that happened on it. And I didn’t even see the longer version. I think there’s a version that’s like three or four hours long. It’s such a mixed feeling of painful darkness — it’s not surprising with Heart of Darkness, to quote that — and of course Brando, he was always my big love/hate hero in acting; his speech, “The horror, the horror,” it’s just killer, you know?"

Independence Day (1996)

"I hate to say it, but it’s one that I starred in — is Independence Day. I was so happy about that film, because, first of all, it grossed close to $1 billion worldwide back in the day, and it really was a great film. To see Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum — to see an African-American and a Jewish guy save the world — I just love that. It was so cool. And the fact that I was a stripper that got to save the First Lady. It just had so many elements of people that normally don’t become people’s heroes save the world."

Loved this, and much like all the other reviews I have read, I struggled to put it down.

For me, Blake Crouch is breathing life back into the genre, his storytelling is remarkable, and I cannot comprehend how he weaves such fantastical 'worlds' into single books.

There is too much to unpack in a review, and I would hate to say anything to spoil the experience of the story, so please do go ahead and enjoy it for yourself!
Set some time aside though as it *will* grab you quickly, and draw you in with barely any time to breath.

Lots of BTS anectodes from key people (1 more)
Talks about key problems that needed solved during each phase
Not really a deep dive into design choices. Mostly storytelling. (0 more)
As excited as I was for an "Art of the movies" book(retroactively, maybe I should've read the synopsis more carefully.),this is NOT that book. However, it still hosts a treasure trove of knowledge once you accept that. It's still super fascinating to read all about the creation of an interconnected movie franchise, because rather you love or hate Marvel movies, there's just no denying that what they've accomplished is nothing short of magic.

A group of hens travel to a remote, exclusive Scottish island to celebrate in luxury with the bride to be. Some of the women know one another, some don’t, and all of them have secrets.

So when the chef is murdered and one of the hens goes missing presumed kidnapped, it’s a race against time to save her. And then the secrets start to come out…

This was fast paced and great fun. None of the characters were particularly nice, but I do love to hate characters in my books!

Read with relish on The Pigeonhole!

"Get off my plane!"
Mid to late 90s film, that is - essentially (and I hate to use this phrase, but it describes it oh so well) 'Die Hard on a Plane'; this is the one with Indiana Jones as the prez of the United States who has his plane hijacked by Russian extremists (led by Gary Oldman) on his way back home from Moscow following a Presidential visit and a hard-line "we will not negotiate with terrorists" speech given by himself - it's hard to imagine now, in 2024, that relations were ever that good between the two countries!
