I like to listen to those women [Nina, Billie and Ella] because they're very relaxed when they sing. At the same time, there's something boiling inside. I recognise myself in them because when you listen to my records, I'm a very relaxed girl, very simple. But behind all that kindness, behind the soft voice, there's something very heavy. I'm still in love with this feeling. They've got the real blues - the blues voice, feeling and soul."

Had me laughing out loud (0 more)
Hilarious and heartbreaking
This book was a very easy read but carried a very serious and heavy message. As a new Mum, I don't manage to stay awake very long to read now so the short diary entries made this perfect for me.
It had me laugh out loud next to a partner who doesn't read at all and couldn't understand why I was laughing. By the end of the book, I did shed a tear.
This book carries a message that everyone in this country who accesses the NHS should read.

Too much pressure on the romance
The first books were wonderful, like a YA night circus. However as the story progressed everything revolved around romamce, some of these 'relationships' were bordering abusive and controlling, but because everyone loves a rouge, we were supposed to forgive it. A great concept, fates trapped in cards, a carnival game that could grant your every desire, kingdoms in peril, but the story should have focused more on the sisters relationship, rather than the romance side.
