"At this point I was playing in a hardcore band, I was listening to hardcore, I was going to hardcore shows, and at a certain point it started get a bit old for me. This album showed me a way of being intense and meaningful and indeed heavy without distorted guitars and taking your shirt off and screaming at the front row. It planted a seed which, when Million Dead broke up, flourished into what I do now There was also a simplicity to it, because I had got into the complicated end of hardcore and bands like Dillinger Escape Plan and Botch, and there was something about simple chords on an acoustic guitar that reminded me of listening to Counting Crows. It was powerful to me. It planted a seed which, when Million Dead broke up, flourished into what I do now."

In all honesty I'll admit I didn't really 'watch' this film, it was on in the background whilst I played some games.

*But* when I stick films on in the background they normally grab my attention a few times, and I can keep up with the plot easily enough.
I can say I kept up with the plot of this one, but from what I can tell the dialogue wasn't great, as there was nothing that particularly stood out, as it was a bit of the over tired tropes, and predictable from the outset.

There were a couple of good looking set pieces and action sequences, and the rest didn't look terrible.

If you are looking for an easy to watch sci-fi action film, that's not too heavy on plot, character development, or being overly sciencey, then this could be for you!

"I will give Last Cab In California honorable mention, but I will stick with Deee-Lite, World Clique. Again, I am all about production. I just like listening to beats and cool sounds. They didn’t sound like anything at the time. I know everybody knows ‘Groove is in the Heart’ but that’s like the fifth best song on that album. They even had the look. They were funky, ‘70s, but hip-hop at the same time. One dude was Asian with goggles on and she had this soul voice and they had heavy piano. I always liked it. That’s just another album that’s upbeat. Maybe not the most masculine one, but whatever, man. I don’t care. I just picture ‘90s black chicks in biker shorts on the grind with Eric B. breaking down to those songs."

You Were Never Really Here (2018)
You Were Never Really Here (2018)

"I was at Sundance for 36 hours this year and this was one of two movies I wasn’t going to leave without seeing. Lots of friends worked with Lynne Ramsey on this one, and told me tales of the production, and in other cases I can usually see such stories in the finished products. But not this one. This was its own untouchable thing, hovering far above from whatever means it took to make it, barely there and unbearably heavy at the very same time. I went to see it a second time opening weekend, and then listened to the score repeatedly until the movie itself was released on iTunes, at which point I let it become background music, playing on a loop as I drift around the house, hoping to subconsciously siphon off some of that tough magic."
