It has a cast that's not to be sniffed at - Sean Astin, Tom Arnold, Jake Busey, Danny Woodburn, Twin Peaks legend Michael Horse, Sydney Sweeney, Entourage's Rhys Coiro - not too shabby for a low budget creature feature.
It's screenplay is constantly humourous, and everyone involved seems like they're having a good time.
As mentioned, the special effects are bargain bin level, but I don't know, that sort of adds to the whole experience.
I might just be a sucker for heavy metal themed comedies, but Dead Ant is a perfectly fine way to spend 90 minutes, and the song "Sideboob" from the movies fictional band Sonic Grave is now on one of my Spotify playlists 🤘
So, not a contemporary (at the time of Cornwell's writing) set mystery, then, with a heavy slant towards nautical matters.
Yet that is precisely what this is.
While I can't comment on the accuracy (or otherwise) of the naval segments - other than to say they seemed plausible to this land-lubber - I have to say, I also found this to be rather predictable fare, with it startlingly obvious - at least to me - just who stole the priceless Van Gogh (the McGuffin that provides the drive for the plot) further early on, not long after that character is introduced.
Sorry, Mr Cornwell: not your best effort.

The more I read the more I understood that things probably weren't going to work out well between these two. A (semi) retired assassin and the only un-crooked cop in the force? Hmm...
But lo and behold we have a new love interest! So I'm still pretty happy.
As for the rest of the story, I got dragged into it. I really wanted Gin to kick everyone's arses and come out on top and although it got a little dicey in places she did!
I'm off to start book 3 to read what she's going to get up to next (and hopefully she'll get a little hot and heavy with the new guy!)

Brandon is a boy who is struggling to completely fit in anywhere in his world. He has a couple of loyal friends, but struggles to understand his place in society. He believes that the ultimate pair of Air Jordan 1's will help solve all the issues he carries internally.
After copping a pair out of the back of a van, he is promptly beaten at gunpoint and they are stolen by a known heavy in his urban neighborhood. The rest of the movie essentially involves his efforts to return the shoes to his feet and the lengths that he is willing to go (and the sacrifices he's willing to make) to make that a reality.
