Once I got over my surprise that this was not a story set in Asia and featured no dragons, I quite enjoyed myself. It feels like a long while since I heard a 5th Doctor pure historical, (not true, this being the era of Peri and Erimem, but still) and like Peri, I kept waiting for that supernatural element to appear. We are talking about Dracula, after all. But nope. Just a wonderful straightforward historical with some great performances. I tire a bit of the "let's throw Erimem to the lusty bad guy trope" but other than that, high marks. For more on this, visit www.travelingthevortex.com

Anyone concerned with film criticism and historiophoty should read from Rosenstone.

His arguments on the accuracy of historical film, the representation of history on screen and the questions of "good" and "bad" films are engaging and a good introduction to this discourse while his writing is clear, his theories well referenced for wider research and his tone easily accessable.

He takes a closer look at History and the differences as well as similarities to history on screen as opposed to writing while questioning if there is even such thing as historical accuracy.

This is a great read for scholarly use but also for the casual fans of cinema.

Ok. I am completely biased towards this movie because I grew up on it. I know that this movie has problems as far as it's historical accuracy and some of its historical references. But I can't help just loving this film. It's such a fun, lighthearted adventure that is wonderful to watch and extremely enjoyable! I love the characters in this film and all of their quirky attitudes. Besides that, none of the side-characters feel like they were wasted opportunities! I think that this movie did a phenomenal job and accepted that it was going to be a dorky, fun, action-adventure film.
