A Historical Perspective
If you're looking for a hero or the traditional emotional connection to the characters, you'll not like this movie. I found it a brilliant look into what happened, the prejudices, the sacrifices, and humanity itself. I highly recommend this movie to everyone wanting to learn more about war, humans in war, or WW2 itself.

Obsessed book reviews (49 KP) rated A Gentleman Never Surrenders (Sins and Scandals #2) in Books

This is the second book in this series by this author. This is a scandalous story which will have you hooked from the first page. This is a historical romance story, I don't usually read this genre but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I loved the characters, I just fell in love with them from the beginning. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.

Interesting Characters
This is my first historical fiction and I have to say I surprisingly enjoyed it.
Lilian Shepard has decided to get on a ship to start afresh in Australia, she has to escape from the awful reminders of something awful that has happened to her.
During the trip she makes friends with a group of people from all different backgrounds and classes. Its all so new and exciting to begin with. By the end of the voyage, two people are dead.

Yummy and hott. Two best words to describe this book. I don't normally enjoy historical books...I'm not big into that genre for some reason but this one caught me and held me and made me read it until it was over. The author has a way with words that is amazing. The characters were so tasty ;) and I really enjoyed the storyline. I cannot wait to see what else this author writes. Very good and I recommend it to everyone who enjoys a good romance.

Cara Edgar (32 KP) rated The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn in Books
Jan 18, 2018
This is my favourite book of 2017! Without a doubt! Join Evelyn telling her life story with a no holds barred account. This is an elegant story with the glamour and dark side of Hollywood. This could easily be about the actresses of old Hollywood with many people having a sneaky suspicion of just who it'll be about. If you like Hollywood, glitz and glamour, historical fiction and real life honesty about subjects then this is a must read book for you.

David McK (3562 KP) rated A Battle Won (Adventures of Charles Hayden, #2) in Books
Jan 30, 2019
Sequel to Sean Thomas Russels' "Under Enemy Colours", again following the adventures of Captain Charles Hayden aboard the frigate Themis
As before, a large portion of the novel details one particular mission, 'bookended' by events in England. Most - not all - of the characters from the first novel reappear, alongside some new faces and historical personages as Russell continues to build on his previous work. While the novel does occasionally flounder, this is syill an enjoyable read and a worthy successor to that earlier work.

Brilliant series!! Based on Bernard Cornell's books "The saxon stories". Full of action as well as great stories including romance to bring you closer to the characters. Set in the 800s at the time of king Alfred (the great) and is very interesting from a historical point of view. There are Anglo-Saxons, Danes, Britons and even talk of scots. There's no obvious good guys or bad guys either and there are many twists and turns. Definitely gives of game of throne vibes. Would highly recommend!

Erika (17789 KP) rated The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society in Books

I was really torn on what to rate this. I like historical fiction, but I normally stay away from anything WWII and beyond. I'm also not into sickly-sweet romance. It was an interesting juxtaposition between that and the events of Guernsey occupation during WWII. The characters were entertaining, but a little one-dimensional. I could tell you how it ended once the first letter came from Guernsey. If you want an easy, light read, and enjoy silly romance, this may be the book for you.
