Opens with the threat of sweeping, gorgeous spectacle but not long after just sort of settles for a collection of watchable action scenes - and that's fine I guess. You've still got Taylor-Johnson in tasty nut mode (complete with peculiar accent) and some dirty, brute violence that doesn't fully satisfy but comes closer than a lot of these outings usually do. Nothing special whatsoever and actually made me retroactively second-guess how good ππ¦ππ π°π³ ππͺπ¨π© ππ’π΅π¦π³ actually was but you could do worse. I'm just tired of this rote historical B.S.
Liberty Boston (93 KP) rated Kristina: The Girl King, Sweden, 1638 in Books

Yes! I HAVE A COPY! Thank the Lord for my awesome stepmom!
I finished this one really quickly thanks to some sleepless nights and I really enjoyed it. I don't get why Kristina's mother hated Sweden so much the mental images the descriptions conjured were beautiful. I love the historical details and how tomboyish Kristina is.
I just don't know what else to say about this book.
It was such a joy to read and I'll probably keep re-reading it like the others I own.

Still fun

The Chocolate Lady (94 KP) rated Becoming Bonnie in Books
Oct 5, 2020
Probably the most famous of criminal duos is Bonnie and Clyde. Their spree of murder and theft ended up with a shoot-out that ended their young lives in the spring of 1934. In her debut novel, Jenni Walsh attempts to paint a fictional portrait of the woman who made up half of this team, from the sketchy information available, and no small amount of innovative flights of fancy on Walsh's part. Read my review of this historical fiction novel in my review here.
