After the success of Science(ish):The Peculiar Science Behind the Movies, Dr Michael Brooks and Rick Edwards return with Hollywood Wants to Kill You: The Peculiar Science of Death in The Movies. Admittedly at first I was a little reluctant, it sounded a bit too geeky for its own good, so I thought I would read a sample and I couldn't stop. This book is absolutely brilliant. Hollywood wanting to kill you is used in loose terms simply as an excuse to discuss extraordinary and utterly fascinating science to you, from plants that learn, to uploading your brain mapping, to the threat of asteroids. There is not one dull moment in this book and you will find yourself discussing awe inducing facts to anyone that will listen.
Not only is it fascinating, but it is also funny and is written and explained in ways that make it accessible no matter complicated the theories inside. I could easily sit and read this book again just so I can absorb even more of the amazing world contained in these pages but I promised to pass it on to my fourteen year old son who is also going to love this book.
A mind blowing adventure of a book delivered in a fun way. I can't rate or recommend this book any higher.

Can Lillian and Edith Find the Deadly Truth in Some Gossip?
Lillian Frost and Edith Head have been summoned to the office of famed gossip columnist Lorna Whitcomb. Her “leg man,” someone who goes out and gathers the gossip for her column, is the police’s prime suspect in the death of Glenn Hoyle, one of his sources. But Sam Simcoe says he is innocent and only found Glenn’s body. Lorna all but blackmails Lillian and Edith into helping clear Sam’s name of the crime. The pair intend to do as little as possible, focusing on the names on a list found in Glenn’s trashcan. Does one of those names hold the key to unraveling the murder?
As always, this was a great trip back in time to the Hollywood of 1940. Real people and fictional characters rub elbows on these pages. I suspect that a few more of the characters might be real people I just didn’t recognize, but I don’t mind since it helps keep the line between real and fictional blurry. And they are all great characters that kept me engaged. The plot is strong, with several revelations before we reach a surprising yet perfectly logical climax. If you enjoy old Hollywood, this series is a must read, but anyone who appreciates a great mystery will be glad they picked it up.

Great
Finally! A really good supernatural thriller/ horror film. The cinematography was on par. The acting was great(the little boy was quite impressive!). The story unfolded really well with a few jump scares and an interesting take on certain ideologies. Very well written. A little predictable in a couple parts, but not enough to ruin the movie. The only thing that disappointed me was that, as always seems to be the case anymore, it left itself open for a sequel. Hollywood can't resist itself, I guess(always looking to "piggyback" on a potential hit)but other than that I highly recommend this film. REALLY worth a watch!

Disney tv movie can't remember if it was a wonderful world of Disney or a Disney channel movie based on the tower of terror ride. It is the anniversary of the disappearance of kid actor Sally shine and 4 other people who disappeared when lightning hit the Hollywood tower hotel. Disgraced reporter buzzy played by Steve Guttenberg gets a visitor and decided to go there to take a story with his niece played by Kristen dunst. Is the story true, are there ghosts, evil forces, or nothing but dust in this tower only watching it will you find out. A little cheesy but good Disney fare.

Fun send up of film noir in pulp literature and los angeles culture in a frozen celluloid time capsule
Set in a decade where the comedy and homages work in todays modern popular culture. This unlikely pair lead the story in an unconventional take on the buddy cop/comedy as they work in opposition to each other to solve a dark crime, with a seedy leadup, all the while surrounded by the city of hollywood and its movie star culture. Something out of the pages of a detective fiction magazine. Post modern film noir in a brighter reflection of itself

Entertaining but flawed
Unusually, this is a book that I’d rate about on par with the film adaptation. As with the film, this is an entertaining read and fairly well written. The basic plot is the same although there have been a few tweaks made for the film - some better, some worse. I much prefer the ending in the book to the film, it’s a little more depressing and a lot less Hollywood (unsurprisingly). I don’t really have much to say about this book, it’s a quick read and quite good, and plods along at a fairly decent rate, it’s just nothing massively special.

Movie moves along at such a great pace

Non-stop action!
These movies just keep getting better and better. Tom Cruise kicks it up a notch from one movie to the next. His stuntwork is some of the best Hollywood has ever seen. He drives a motorcycle against traffic in Paris. He jumps from rooftop to rooftop. He flies a helicopter over low ground. He HALO jumps. He's crazy & I love it!!! Give me more!!
