Russ Troutt (291 KP) rated Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019) in Movies
Jul 26, 2019
Once upon a time there was this amazingly talented writer and director from Tennessee that created pure cinema magic every time he put pen to paper, finger to keyboard, eye to camera. That time was and is now and his name is Quentin Tarantino. His ninth and newest film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood has as many stars as one might see spread across the night sky lighting up the Hollywood Hills, actually that light might just be from the spotlights at the newest dirty movie premiere. Every actor delivers what one might say is some of the greatest acting they've seen in their whole life. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is more tasteful than a can of Wolf's Tooth dog food, as crisp and refreshing as an Old Chattanooga beer, and as smooth as a Red Apple unfiltered cigarette with a drag that you want to keep pulling from and never want to end.

Coster having been out of the Hollywood limelight for a while returns in this fun little movie from Mc G, although the plot is a little contrived, the action scenes and dry humour bolster the story which moves at pace towards a predictable but entertaining finale.
Ben Wheatley recommended Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters (1985) in Movies (curated)

Fantastic graphics, big budget Hollywood film
This film is a guilty pleasure of mine when I'm desperate to watch an apocalyptic film. It's much more intelligent than your run of the mill brainless action movie given that it is based on Al Gore's book about the reversal of the Gulf Stream.
That being said, it is still a Hollywood big budget movie so don't expect intelligent dialogue or anything particularly well explained. The graphics are phenomenal and the moment the eye of the storm freezes everything in sight still gives me shivers down my spine.
Not bad for a sit back and contemplate the end of the world kind of film.

Pretty boy wants the best life and makes an app to obtain it. Only to lose everything before realizing he was fine the way he was. I mean, we’ve seen this repeatedly in Hollywood. Same plot. Different cast. Nothing new to see here. Move it along. Move it along.

Max and Eleanor Beecham seem the perfect couple. But their dark past still haunts them both, and it is tearing them apart. You can read my revised review of this historical fiction novel about Hollywood's secrets and pasts here https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2015/05/10/hollywood-secrets-and-pasts/
