The Brood (1979)
1979 | Horror, Sci-Fi
Key Cronenberg movie starts off relatively restrained but ends up with a festival of bonkers ickiness. A man in the middle of a custody battle finds people connected to his ex-wife are being murdered by deformed child-like dwarves with weird, non-human anatomies. Can unorthodox psychiatrist Oliver Reed shed light on the situation?

Undeniably a horror movie, but one rich in subtext and metaphor, as well as containing several ew-that's-unbelievably-gross moments. (Students of the director may also wonder just how bad his divorce must have been.) Less Oliver Reed than you might hope for, but a remarkable performance from Samantha Eggar, and a great many memorable and disturbing sequences. Works on all sorts of levels, though some people may struggle to see past the more graphic aspects of the film. Still, this is horror done with brains and style.

Weston Michels, I fell for you within the first couple of pages of meeting you! I think it was the fact you called her "freakin' beautiful.". You were such a nice guy, how could anyone not fall for you?!?!

Then comes the fact that we know there's something wrong with you and it takes almost half the book to find out what...I think I began to cry then :'( and continued to do so throughout when you do your damnedest to not fall for her or let her fall for you but I think it's fair to say that is almost impossible to do!

I really liked Gabe too, he came across as a bit of an arse to start with but by the end, he was making me cry too, he's actually a very sweet guy and I hope he gets a book!

Please don't get me wrong, I am going by the BOOK alone not her nor her story. I know about her story I remember it happening, and I have seen everything she has achieved since and it is wonderful. To come out of something so horrific the way she has is amazing, and I hope she has made herself proud. This book I just could not get into it just didn't happen, I am not entirely sure why,I didn't find it very well written, the pace wasn't right and I just felt like it was a chore to read. I don't usually feel like that but I just couldn't shake the feeling for this one. I would like to point out though that her story and this book I feel are two separate things her story what happened to her I have admiration for I just didn't like this book.

The Rambo film we didn't need
I was surprised when I suddenly saw a post advertising another Rambo film at the cinema. Seemed to pop up close to release without much promotion. It's been 11 years since the last Rambo film and that had a fitting enough ending to the franchise.
So back at the ranch we see him return to at the end of the last film, we find he has is playing uncle to a young girl and her mum who live there. After she takes a trip to Mexico she goes missing and it's up to Rambo to save the day. This definitely feels different to all the other Rambo films, more like a Taken plot with a girl needing rescuing. Overall its not a bad action film it just doesn't feel like a Rambo film. Let's just hope this is the last one.
