In an alternate reality exists two worlds, both at war with each other. Neyla is drawn into this war against her will when it is discovered that she has a latent Talent. Enscripted into the army, in a war full of propaganda and struggling with the mistrust of the soldiers she's supposed to be fighting with, she is injured by a soldier on her side and captured by a 'barbarian'.

Taken over into Cascadia, she soon learns that the war is different to the stories that she's been fed. Given time to spend with the citizens, she realises that she doesn't want to go back. Of course, Rickert might also play a big part in that as the attraction between the two absolutely sizzles.

This is a fantastic start to the series with wonderful world-building. The characters are all full-bodied and believable, even the ones you dislike. Thoroughly enjoyable and definitely recommended for those who want a short but hot paranormal romance read.

The third in the Blood Rose Series is dedicated to Quinlan and Batya, both natives of the Nine Realms although Batya left to live on 'mortal' earth, for reasons you find out as the book develops. In fact, it is not only the book that develops, but the series as a whole, as facts come to light and more starts to make sense. There is a name now for the 'big bad', an understanding of what is wanted, and more to the point, what is needed to stop it.

The chemistry is rife between Quinlan and Batya and, although you might think that the timing is wrong, they still manage to make time for each other. And boy, is it hot!

There are appearances from previous characters, as well as from new ones. Some, I'm not sure if they're part of the bigger picture or not, but I still really like reading about them.

This is a brilliant addition to the Blood Rose series and will definitely leave you wanting more. Highly recommended.

Louise Faces a Hot Second Case
Louise Faulk is following her desire to become a New York City police officer by taking the entrance exam, something that is rare for women in 1913. Taking it makes her late for work, which is why she is the last to arrive and find the building completely burned down. What’s more shocking is when she learns that one of her bosses was inside. Guy rarely started before noon, if that early, so what was he doing there already? With time on her hands, Louise digs into what happened. Can she learn the truth?

I’m sad I waited so long to get to this book because it was a delight. There is plenty here to keep us guessing, with some great twists along the way. The suspects in this book were supporting players in the first, so it was fun to see them more developed. The series regulars are all back and it was great to spend more time with. In fact, one of them brings a real person into the book, which I enjoyed. The world of 1913 came to life as I was reading. I was kept guessing until I reached the end. I need to move on to book three sooner rather than later.

Kim is on a camping trip with her little sister and her sister's current 'pretty boy'. They quickly decide that more fun is to be had at Kim's cottage, and it is with great pleasure, that Kim shoo's them off. This gives her the opportunity to investigate a growling sound that she heard that, although she knows should scare her, doesn't. She doesn't find an animal, what she finds is a big, strapping Viking, complete with broadsword. She is able to get him back to her cottage where, luckily, her sister and pretty boy have already left. The fun then starts for Kim, culminating with a choice that she has to make.

This was a fun but hot read, with main characters that were 'human'. There was no silliness in Kim's behaviour, and Asger was alpha enough to be dreamy, without being a misogynistic fool.

There is love, action, romance and humour to be found within these pages. This is book one of the series and I can't wait to read more. Definitely recommended.
