Michael Packner (32 KP) rated Dane Cook: Vicious Circle (2006) in Movies
Jun 17, 2019
I gotta say, I remember liking Dane Cook much more in the 2000s when I was in my 20s. I still like him in films like Mr Brooks and Employee of the Month, but his stand up just doesn't grab me like it used to. I enjoy his energy and how much he enjoys what he's doing. Watching him brings me a feeling of nostalgia that I most definitely enjoy, but most of the jokes just fell flat for me this time around. Sure, some of it is still funny as hell. The guy was talented, but I just don't connect with his type of humor much anymore. It's kinda disappointing. Makes me feel old. It was still worth the trip down memory lane. A lot of these jokes feel dated though as well. Kids today would not understand the type of humor that we engaged in back then. Dane Cook is most definitely for people who enjoyed their 20s in the 2000s. That's definitely me. The only question you have to ask yourself is how much of it do you still connect with.

Joe Goodhart (27 KP) rated Hawkeye vs. Deadpool in Books
Nov 30, 2020
HAWKEYE VS DEADPOOL. Hmm.. Features The Merc with the Mouth, Hawkeye and Kate Bishop. Written by Gerry Duggan, whom I am told has written a number of DP stories. Okay, sounds like a recipe for fun, right? [Cue the buzzer sound] NOPE!
What followed was a train wreck, the kind that there is no accident insurance in the world that could've helped this mess! Sophmoric writing, humor that wasn't humorous enough to call it "humor" (!), and characterizations that, if owned the characters of Clint Barton and Kate Bishop, should have made Matt Fraction unbelievably disappointed!
And dear God, when did Black Cat become such a lame-ass character? Okay, granted she was bat-**** crazy, but here? She was acting like some criminal mastermind (with two scoops of crazy!).
The only thing that helped me give this drek at least one star? The art talent of Matteo Lolli! That was about the only this book got right: the way the characters are supposed to look!
Look, when it went up for the sale price of $2.99 on Comixology, I thought it would be justokay, but not this bad! One of those rare situations where I should've heeded the negative reviews I'd seen for this book!
*** NOT Recommended! ***

Matthew Krueger (10051 KP) rated Child's Play (2019) in Movies
Jun 29, 2019 (Updated Feb 12, 2020)
Wanna Play
Contains spoilers, click to show
Child's play- in my mind is okay. I didnt like a lot of things in the movie. Spoiler alert if you havent seen it.
1. Chucky himself- when you first get a look at chucky your like disgust but also terrifying. He was creepy but also wired to look at. Everytime he was on screen i has a nasty feelling in my stomach.
2. Chucky's sense of humor- whenever chucky is about the kill someone, he says a one liner that doesnt go through. I understand that the studio was trying to have some of the old chucky's sense of humor in this new one, but it failed.
3. No don mancini and no brad dourif- those two alone are the keyholeders of chucky. Don mancini created chucky and directed three of the chucky movies and brad dourif voiced chucky in the pervious movies. I dont mind mark hamli, but chucky is not the same with these two involded.
4. The charcters, expecy for andy- i could care less about the rest of the chacters, andy was the only chatcter the i cared about in the movie.
Other than those i thought child's play was okay. Not great, just okay.

tapestry100 (306 KP) rated Naughty Mabel Sees It All in Books
Aug 2, 2017
Naughty Mabel makes her return with this second volume, which I found a huge improvement over her first story (Nathan Lane is such a comedy genius, and for him to resort to fart humor, regardless of how funny kids will find it, left me disappointed). This time out, Mabel is seeing things, which makes her inherent naughtiness even worse, and until her parents can figure out why she's seeing things, Mabel continues to wreak havoc. Dan Krall's illustrations are perfect once again, and I'm actually now hoping that we'll be seeing more of Mabel in the future.
Sadie Brown (3 KP) rated Thor: Ragnarok (2017) in Movies
May 4, 2018
Thor Ragnarok
Out of all the Thor movies released to date, Ragnarok is my favorite. Before Thor just was either simply annoying to me or wasnt able to hold my attention. Ragnarok begins fleshing out of his character. He may be a god, but his flaws and foibles make him more realistic and relatable. We get to see his struggles. We get to see facets of his sense of humor. Oh, and he makes fight scenes EPIC.
