"I read this as a young student, and I thought you had to be me or one of my friends to appreciate the raw humor and sweet sadness. So I was surprised when my father picked up my book when I was home for summer holiday, and I saw him sitting in his reading chair, laughing out loud. It’s a bit like your parents copying your playlist and actually digging it; you're not sure whether you should feel invaded or proud."

"I love having a look at the world through this man’s iconic glasses. Once you read about Miss Shepherd (who lived in a van on his driveway), you will never forget her. He sees what we all see and finds the humor and the pathos in the quiet, everyday moments that make up our lives. Having beetroot for lunch and enjoying a full day of appointments then looking in the mirror at home that evening and finding your chin is splashed purple."

"The funniest film that ever will be made. It invented an entire genre. It’s impossible for me to quantify the impact this film had on my sense of humor. When I meet young people who have not seen this film, I am at first dismayed and then overjoyed for them, because I know they get to experience the thrill of the “this one goes to eleven” speech for the very first time. This film is a master class in deadpan comedy. "

Oh these boots were definitely made for walking!
As a huge fan of the film and musicals in general, this had a lot to live up to. But I was happy. It was so very well done and captured the humor and magic of the film.
Was I sad they did not sing "these boots were made for walking" or the medaly at the end of the film? Yes. But it was still brilliant. A great musical experience.
